Sharks star Ronaldo Mulitalo has never been short of a word, and the fiery winger was at his boisterous best once again following his side’s upset finals win over the Roosters.

Earlier in the week, Mulitalo rubbished the criticism that has been levelled at the Sharks’ poor finals record since 2017.
“We’ve played finals every year while there are eight or nine other clubs that haven’t played finals… People just keep changing the goalposts. I couldn’t care less what anyone says about finals,” Mulitalo said.

Immediately after Saturday night’s win in which Cronulla won just their third final in 13 attempts, Mulitalo again took aim at the media and the team’s critics.

“I love these bunch of boys. All the crap that’s been said in the media about us, they’ve kicked us while we’re down … shove that up your pipe, brah,” Mulitalo told Triple M post-game.
“We love each other, we work hard for each other and our community. No one gave us a shot here, no one.
“They all came down here thinking it was an easy win (for the Roosters) so I’m just really grateful for the win. We’ll celebrate tonight and then get ready for next week.
“No one’s given us a shot, we’ve flown under the radar and that’s exactly how we like it.
“Keep bagging us out in the media boys, we’re going to keep getting after it. I love this group of boys and we’re going to keep working hard for each other win or lose next week.”
Mulitalo was in a running battle with opposing winger Mark Nawaqanitawase, which had been talked up all week heading into the clash.
Nawaqanitawase won the battle early, burning Mulitalo with pace to score the game’s first try but Mulitalo scored a first-half double and got the last laugh with his side progressing to the semi-finals.
However, the Sharks No. 5 believes it was the Roosters flyer that won the individual battle.

“This is what it’s all about, give the fans something to watch. He’s an outstanding athlete and to be fair I feel like he played a better game than me tonight,” he said.
“He contested well under the high ball … he’s got a long and bright future in this game. I love playing against guys like that, you get the best out of each other.”
Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon praised Mulitalo’s performance, noting a light-hearted moment post-game when the winger apologised to Fitzgibbon.
“He felt the pinch when Mark scored (the game’s first try). He said ‘Craig, I’m sorry. I said something during the week and I shouldn’t have done it.’ That’s Ronny. That’s why we love him. He’s not scared,” Fitzgibbon said.
“If Ronny takes on an opponent and they get him, he’ll get them back. He’s combative in that way.
“He’s an out and out Shark, he loves his teammates and the club.
“It was a good duel out there. Mark played well. It was exciting for the game and if you’re a fan and watching Mark and Ronny going at it, it’s awesome.”
