Shibasaki drops it inside his own 20 under heavy pressure from Canberra and the Raiders have a fresh set on the attack. They’re on top of things physically at the moment.

Strange nearly powers over following a set play, then Young puts in a little grubber and Kris pounces on it to score! Great touch from the backrower and Canberra lead for the first time!

Fogarty slots it and it’s 12-6 Raiders.

19′ Raiders survive Bronco surge

Tamale loses it as he tries to play the ball around halfway and Brisbane go on the attack.

Brisbane get a very dodgy six again after a pass hits the deck, but Paix goes from dummy half and is judged to have burrowed through the ruck.

Feels like two wrongs made a right there. Raiders ball.

Hunt throws a forward pass on halfway, then sprays the referee so Canberra will have their first set inside the Broncos 20.

Fogarty drifts left, puts in a nice grubber and Young is there to score!

Nice hit back from the Raiders, they look to have settled into the contest.

Fogarty drills the conversion and it’s 6-all.

8′ Brisbane can’t capitalize on Walsh magic

Walsh ducks down a very narrow blindside and hits an inch-perfect 40/20 to put the Broncos back on the attack.

They spread it left again, Walters offloads to Shibasaki and he looks to score but they get pinged for an obstruction and Canberra survive.

Second takle of the game Starling makes a half break but gets called for a ball plant and Brisbane will go on the attack straight away.

Hunt goes for an early kick that gets deflected and Canberra knock it on. Fresh set for the visitors.

They spread it left, Staggs pops up on the other side of the field and powers over the top of Fogarty to score! Great strength from the blockbusting centre and a dream start for Brisbane.

Walsh converts and it’s 6-0 Broncos.

Josh Hodgson is on the Viking Horn

Canberra always roll out a club legend to blow on the Viking Horn and lead the clap before a big game and this time they’ve brought back Josh Hodgson.

The English dummy half was one of Canberra’s best during his seven seasons in the capital, good to see him out there.

Tips

I have to be honest with you – I’ve got a little bit of green blood so of course I’m gonna tip the Raiders.

But Brisbane’s speed and skill makes this the pick of the first-round match ups. It can definitely go either way, but I think Canberra’s superior depth in the forwards and Jamal Fogarty’s kicking game can get them home.

Let’s go Raiders 22-10 with Josh Papalii to crash over for the first try.
