It’s only taken 9000 episodes to reach this milestone.

After nearly 40 years and 9000 episodes The Bold & the Beautiful is set to feature its first gay couple -a belated inclusion given its setting is in the fashion industry.

The show has featured LGBTQIA+ characters in the past including its first lesbian couple in 2012, Karen Spencer (Joanna Johnson) and Danielle (Crystal Chappell); and Maya Avant (Karla Mosley) in 2015 as the first regular transgender character in daytime television.

Now Remy Pryce (Christian Weissman, pitured left), who joined in November, will be romantically linked to a character portrayed by Harrison Cone (Hacks, The Summer I Turned Pretty, American Horror Stories pictured right). Deadline reports there will also be an on-screen kiss (another first for B&B).

Other US daytime soaps have include gay male couples including As the World Turns‘ Luke Snyder and Noah Maye, Days of Our Lives‘ Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis and Beyond the Gates‘ Brandon Claybon and Mike Manning.

The Bold & the Beautiful screens in Australia on 10.
