PITTSBURG, Kan. — #3 Grand Valley State dropped a 17-14 decision at #16 Pittsburg State Saturday night before a crowd of 8,350 at Carnie Smith Stadium. GVSU will have a two-week bye and will next host Davenport on October 4 for the GLIAC opener at Lubbers Stadium.Â

Truman State 28, Davenport 27 (OT)
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Truman State edged past Davenport 28-27 on Saturday at Stokes Stadium in overtime as the Panthers went for two in the first overtime, but fell short. Davenport jumped to an early 14-point lead in the first quarter. The Panthers were driving again in the second quarter when D’Wan Mathis was picked off and Dominic Grand returned it 73 yards for a score to cut the lead to 14-7.

FINDLAY, Ohio
 — The Wayne State University defense help an opponent under 10 points for the first time since a 16-3 triumph at Davenport University on October 16, 2021, a span of 37 games, but the offense managed just three points in a 7-3 setback at the University of Findlay (2-0 overall) in the lowest scoring WSU football game since a 7-0 loss at Ashland on September 8, 2012.

St. Thomas 20, Northern Michigan 7
MARQUETTE, Mich.
 — The Northern Michigan football team held a 7-6 lead halfway through the fourth quarter against Division I St. Thomas, but two late touchdowns from the Tommies proved enough to down the Wildcats, 20-7. The matchup also marked a historic moment, as it was the first-ever game against a Division I opponent inside the Superior Dome since its opening in 1991.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — The Saginaw Valley State University football team fell 38-14 to Northwood in the 50th Axe Bowl game between the two rivals. The Cardinals (1-2) outscored the Timberwolves (2-0) 14-10 in the second half, but couldn’t rally back from a 35-point deficit.
