THERE will be a whole lot more orange numbers in the field when the Repco Supercars Championship opens its maiden finals series.
Seemingly for the ease of spectators both trackside and watching on TV, all finals cars will carry orange numbers at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
The 14 cars outside the finals bracket will retain the standard yellow numbers.
Usually, orange numbers are reserved exclusively for the championship leader; however this initiative comes in line with the game changing on how the 2025 title will be decided.
That is to take place over a three-round knockout phase comprising Gold Coast, Sandown and Adelaide.
A total of 10 cars will be officially in the hunt after Bathurst. Three will then be knocked out at the end of both Gold Coast and Sandown, leaving a last four to duke it out in Adelaide.
Thus far, Broc Feeney, Matt Payne, Will Brown, Cam Waters, Chaz Mostert and Brodie Kostecki have punched their ticket to the playoffs.
The remaining four spots will be determined at the Repco Bathurst 1000 across October 9-12, where Feeney and #88 co-driver Jamie Whincup are due to have the only orange digits for one last event.
Gold Coast will unfold a fortnight after the Great Race, across October 24-26.
