For three decades, the Warriors’ top try scorer list had been the preserve of wingers and centres. But that streak was broken this season when 19-year-old Leka Halasima finished with 13 tries, the first forward in the club’s history to lead the charts.
Halasima sealed the milestone in the elimination final defeat to Penrith, crossing for his 13th of the year while starting at centre for the first time.
That effort nudged him ahead of veteran Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who ended on 12, with Adam Pompey close behind on 11.

A new name on a storied list
In doing so, Halasima has also drawn level with Melbourne’s Eliesa Katoa for the most tries by a forward across the NRL this year – an impressive feat for a teenager only just embarking on his career. His name now sits alongside an illustrious roll call of Warriors try scorers, from Francis Meli and Nigel Vagana to Konrad Hurrell and Shaun Johnson.
The benchmark, however, remains Manu Vatuvei, the club’s record-holder with 152 tries across 226 appearances. Vatuvei topped the tally for eight consecutive seasons between 2007 and 2014, a streak no one has come close to matching since.
While Halasima has some way to go before entering that conversation, his breakout campaign has already etched him into Warriors folklore. For a forward to break a 30-year pattern is no small statement – and for Halasima, it may only be the beginning.
