TROY, N.Y. (WRGB) — A striking, new, three-story mural by artist Greg Gossel has been unveiled in downtown Troy, capturing the spirit of community resilience and honoring the city’s rich history.

The mural, located at one of Troy’s gateways by the Green Island Bridge, was revealed during a press conference hosted by the Arts Center of the Capital Region.

The artwork, selected through an international call for submissions and curated by Belinda Colon, features a central figure with boxing gloves and upstretched arms, symbolizing hope and perseverance. It pays homage to Troy’s storied boxing tradition. A fiery sunset and the Hudson River flow through the composition, set beneath the Green Island and Waterford bridges. Additional elements include an American flag and poppy to honor veterans, a tattoo referencing Troy’s founding in 1791, and a water wheel in the foreground nodding to the city’s industrial past.

The project is funded by the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative and is overseen by the Arts Center of the Capital Region.
