NRL star Brandon Smith has appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court for the first time to fight drug supply and betting charges.

Queensland Police issued the 29-year-old South Sydney Rabbitohs player with a summons notice on August 20 for allegedly using or disclosing inside knowledge for betting, and supplying dangerous drugs.

Police alleged he supplied drugs while in Currimundi on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on June 7.

NRL star Brandon Smith charged with drug supply and betting offences

Brandon Smith is set to fight charges laid by Queensland police this week as the South Sydney Rabbitohs stand by him.

His Sydney-based lawyer Paul McGirr previously told the ABC that Smith was in Sydney at the time.

He was represented in court today by Queensland lawyer Adam Moschella.

Smith was silent in court and did not enter a plea.

His matter has been adjourned.

It will next be heard in the Southport Magistrates Court on October 9, with Smith’s appearance excused.

Smith won a premiership with the Melbourne Storm in 2020 and departed the Sydney Roosters to sign a two-year deal with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in March.
