A legendary figure of rugby league has urged the NRL to rethink how it stages its biggest day on the calendar.

The all-time great believes the Grand Final has drifted away from the tradition and atmosphere that once made it special.

Mark Geyer’s comments have sparked discussion among supporters who remember the game’s classic showdowns of the past.

The last time the NRL had a day-time Grand Final was in 2000 when the Brisbane Broncos played the Sydney Roosters, in which the Broncos would claim the premiership.

The first time the NRL had a night-time Grand Final was when the Newcastle Knights played the Parramatta Eels in 2001 and upset the historic offensive outfit of the Blue and Gold.

“I think it’s time for the NRL to get serious about getting back to a day-time Grand Final,” Geyer said on 2GB Wide World of Sports

“The ratings are through the roof and I think footy is better in the day-time.”
