Murder Before Evensong, the upcoming ’80s-set cosy crime drama starring Matthew Lewis and Happy Valley’s Amit Shah, has released its riveting first trailer – take a look to find out more!
The six-part series, which is based on Richard Coles’s 2022 novel of the same name, sees Lewis portray Canon Daniel Clement, the Rector of Champton, as he finds himself unexpectedly entangled in a murder case when a dead body turns up in the church.
The developments come after Daniel announces a plan to modernise the church, which causes a sharp divide in the community. As the bodies begin to pile up, Daniel is tasked with repairing the “fractured” community”.

Ahead of the series’ launch later this year, the first trailer has been unveiled by 5, with Daniel being crestfallen at the loss of a life. As he begins to investigate with the help of Shah’s DS Neil Vanloo, he begins to find that the locals aren’t particularly forthcoming.
Furthermore, Neil supposes that Daniel may have been the killer’s target after all, a theory that is bolstered by the arrival of a sinister letter. With time running out, can the pair catch the killer?

In addition to Shah, who played Faisal Bhatti in the third season of Happy Valley, the supporting cast for Murder Before Evensong includes Amanda Redman, Adam James, Tamzin Outhwaite, Francis Magee, Nina Toussaint-White and Marion Bailey.
Lewis, who has also starred in All Creatures Great and Small, previously spoke of his joy at joining the murder-mystery series, saying: “I’m beyond thrilled to be throwing on the old dog collar and diving into the world of Champton so charmingly created by Richard Coles.

Coles’s novel, which is the first in the Canon Clement Mysteries collection, has been adapted for the screen by Midsomer Murders’ Nick Hicks-Beach, while David Moore will serve as the director.
