SHANE van Gisbergen has finished second to Keelan Harvick in the latest Summer Shootout feature race, as part of the Legend Car Pro feature at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The Kiwi has been utilising the races as an oval track learning tool, especially with respect to learning left foot braking.

Harvick, the son of legendary NASCAR figure Kevin Harvick, has already made a name for himself in a range of motorsport disciplines across America at the age of 13.

Outside of Legends, he has proven to be a regular winner in full-sized late model racing across a range of different series.

A number of professional drivers have been moonlighting in the pocket rocket racers this year, including Bubba Wallace and Scott McLaughlin, with that pair finishing ninth and 11th, respectively, in the feature race.

Other drivers who have been regulars at the ten-round series include Kyle Busch in the Legends Masters class and his son, Brexton Busch, who competes in both Legends and Bandoleros.

The Shootout utilises a short layout on the quad-oval infield.

Coincidentally, van Gisbergen has signed a management deal with Harvick Senior’s company KHI Management, which also handles the affairs of drivers Josh Berry, Harrison Burton, Todd Gilliland, Riley Herbst, Ryan Preece and Ricky Stenhouse Jr, amongst a raft of emerging talent.

Van Gisbergen returns to the track this weekend in the NASCAR Cup Series with the Brickyard 400, while McLaughlin will be looking to turn around his IndyCar Series at Laguna Seca.
