KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — K-pop stars Irene and Seulgi, the powerhouse subunit of Red Velvet, delivered a dazzling show at Mega Star Arena here on September 13, 2025, as part of their ‘Balance’ World Tour.
More than 2,900 ReVeluvs — as Red Velvet fans are known — packed the venue to welcome the duo’s long-awaited return to Malaysia, eight years after their first visit in 2017 for a fan meet and mini showcase alongside members Wendy and Yeri. Member Joy was absent at the time due to filming commitments in Seoul.
From Red Velvet to Irene & Seulgi
Red Velvet, formed by SM Entertainment in 2014, consists of five members: leader and visual Irene, main dancer and lead vocalist Seulgi, main vocalist Wendy, vocalist-rapper Joy, and youngest member Yeri, who joined in 2015.
The group has since become a global sensation, with hits such as Happiness, Red Flavor and Zimzalabim amassing millions of streams and views worldwide. In 2020, Irene and Seulgi debuted as Red Velvet’s first subunit with the extended play Monster, which became the year’s best-selling female subunit release in South Korea.
Even before their official debut, the pair had performed together under SM Rookies, gaining early attention with a cover of Be Natural.
High-energy night in Kuala Lumpur
The Malaysia stop of the ‘Balance’ tour — announced in April with nine shows across seven Asian countries — opened with Tilt, Feel Good, Trampoline, Diamond and Naughty.
Seulgi then took the spotlight with solo performances of Praying, Dead Man Runnin’, Rollin’ (With My Homies) and Better Dayz, before reuniting with Irene for Be Natural and Irresistible.
Irene followed with her solo set featuring Strawberry Silhouette, Calling Me Back, Ka-Ching and Start Line. The duo then returned for crowd favourites including What’s Your Problem?, Heaven and Monster.
The night closed with encore numbers such as Jelly, during which Irene and Seulgi mingled with fans, as well as Sweet Dreams, You Better Know, Zimzalabim, Red Flavor and Power Up.
Seulgi delivered a stellar performance last weekend at the Mega Star Arena for the Balance Tour Malaysia stop.
Why this show mattered
Red Velvet’s first Malaysian appearance in 2017 was an intimate showcase before a few hundred fans. This time, the subunit headlined a sold-out arena concert — a milestone moment eight years in the making.
“It’s been eight years since we last performed here, and I was nervous seeing how warmly you all welcomed us,” Seulgi told the crowd. “Even if it was just a short trip, thanks for the memories you created.”
Irene added: “Thank you for loving Red Velvet for so long and spending your time with us. You are the true heroes of this concert, and even after all these years, you still welcome and love us.”
A week on, fans are still raving online, calling it one of the best K-pop shows Malaysia has ever hosted.
The ‘Balance’ World Tour has already captivated audiences in Seoul, Singapore, Macau, Bangkok, Taipei and Kuala Lumpur, with Tokyo set as the next stop.
