Every week, a handful of free games get added to the ever-growing library of Steam. Of course, not all of them are worth playing, but a good number of them turn out to be pretty decent, and it seems that The Spike Cross is one of them. It became available on the platform on September 19, 2025, and soon after launch, it secured a position on Steam’s “New & Trending” chart.
To be specific, this new free game on Steam is currently in the second spot on the list, and it has over 150 player reviews with an overall 83% positive rating. Per SteamDB, it had a peak player count of 821 players on its launch date. At the core, The Spike Cross is a fast-paced 3v3 volleyball game with support for online multiplayer and co-op modes. It’s developed by Suncyan and is said to feature an “appealing” storyline.
The game’s story revolves around Siwoo, who aims to become the greatest middle blocker. To get closer to this target, the protagonist needs to compete against opponents and take part in different tournaments.
According to the players who tried the game, it features dynamic gameplay, and players need to execute different volleyball tactics to gain the upper hand over opponents. It’s also said to have smooth controls, and there’s proper support for controllers (8BitDo Ultimate 2 curr. $52.99 on Amazon).
While this free game is praised for offering an immersive sports experience, some noted that the PC version isn’t fully optimized yet. Past mobile players have also pointed out that the competitive matches in the story mode can become unnecessarily complex. Check out the video below to learn more about The Spike Cross.
