UNDATED (WKRC/CNN Newsource) – A recent study suggests that cycling may benefit brain health, potentially lowering the risk of dementia.
Researchers analyzed years of data from nearly 480,000 individuals and discovered that those who cycled had a 19% lower risk of all-cause dementia and a 22% lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease compared to those who used non-active travel methods like driving or public transportation.
The study also indicated that cycling was associated with greater volumes in the brain region responsible for memory and learning. However, experts not involved in the research cautioned that the study is observational, meaning it cannot definitively prove that cycling directly prevents dementia, but rather shows an association.
The study was recently published in the journal “JAMA Network Open.”
