“ENGINEERING” efforts are still being required to overcome severe beach erosion as preparations for the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 ramp up.
Week two of the Surfers Paradise track build is now underway, ahead of the October 24-26 event.
Beach erosion caused by Tropical Cyclone Alfred earlier this year forced the cancellation of the 2025 Pacific Airshow that had been scheduled for August.
Supercars all along has said its event will be unaffected, a position which it maintains – even if there are some hurdles to navigate.
“A little bit of erosion on beaches around some of the grandstands but it’s all on track,” said Supercars CEO James Warburton.
Asked by V8 Sleuth if there’s any work still to be done in that space, Warburton responded: “A fair bit of engineering, but again all achievable.
“It’s just something we have got to be very mindful of when we put it together.”
Acting Mayor Mark Hammel added: “City of Gold Coast and Supercars continue to work really closely to make sure that any issues caused by Cyclone Alfred with the beaches where the grandstand goes can be overcome.
“I share the thoughts that it’s just some additional engineering work.
“Those grandstands will be in place to make sure as many spectators as possible have got those prime positions on that iconic piece of beach.”
The Gold Coast 500 will represent the opening leg of Supercars’ inaugural finals series.
Before then will be the Repco Bathurst 1000 on October 9-12.
