Alex Faust will succeed Bob Costas as the new play-by-play voice on TNT Sports’ MLB postseason games, sources briefed on the decision told The Athletic.

Costas retired from MLB play-by-play after calling the New York Yankees-Kansas City Royals’ four-game American League Division Series last year.

Faust, 36, has already broadcast events for TNT Sports, as he is part of their NHL coverage and was on the call for French Open matches. He calls Friday Night MLB games for Apple TV+. He is also the radio voice of the New York Rangers.

A TNT spokesman declined to comment on the move.

Brian Anderson continues as the No. 1 MLB play-by-play voice for TNT Sports. He will again work with Ron Darling and Jeff Francoeur for the National League Championship Series. In the NLDS, Anderson is expected to pair with Francoeur, while Darling will be teamed with Faust.

Costas was hired in 2020 by then-TNT Sports boss, Jeff Zucker. Prior to Costas moving into a play-by-play role, Don Orsillo, the current TV voice of the San Diego Padres, was the No. 2 TNT Sports play-by-play person behind Anderson.

Given Costas’ standing in baseball broadcasting, he would sometimes call the superior series in the divisional round, even though Anderson was the lead play-by-play caller. Last year, this was the case, with Costas handling the Yankees’ series. Now, the setup of which team calls the top divisional round series is expected to be more traditional with Anderson and Faust.
