Taylor Fritz enjoyed an incredible Laver Cup campaign for Team World, becoming the first player in history to earn two top-five wins in a single edition of the event.

After a loss in his opening doubles match, Fritz bounced back on day two and defeated world number one Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

He followed his triumph up with a victory in the decisive match on the final day, beating Alexander Zverev to seal a third Laver Cup in four years for Team World.

The American capped off a strong week for Andre Agassi‘s side, who emerged victorious by 15 points to nine.

Team World’s title was decided largely by their sweep on day two, in which Fritz came out on top against Alcaraz.

Reacting to his compatriot’s performance against the Spaniard at a ‘Served Live’ event, former US Open champion Andy Roddick said: “Listen, I’ve been on record many, many times. Taylor Fritz is not scared to go out there and take it on the chin.

“He will lay it on the line every time. I guarantee you he was the first person to raise his hand and say, ‘I want a piece of Carlos. I haven’t beaten him yet’.

“Same thing when he lost to Novak at the US Open. He goes, ‘This is gonna be the day’. The guy has a winner mentality. He gets up, he’ll lose on a Sunday and he is back to work on the next Tuesday.

“[He is an] absolute gym rat. A great attitude. I didn’t have this – he thinks he’s going to win the next match he plays every single time. He says it, and I believe him. There are some people that say where you don’t believe them.

“I mean, Andre [Agassi] talked the other day. He dealt from a place of insecurity mixed with ego. I think I did the same thing.

“That insecurity doesn’t exist with Taylor Fritz, even to the point where he can say, you know, I haven’t beaten this person before, but I know I’m going to. That’s a superpower, and he shows it every single time.”

Taylor Fritz extends his winning streak against Alexander Zverev

With his final win at the Laver Cup, Fritz extended his winning streak against Zverev to six matches.

Since the German won their clash in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open in 2024, the US number one has taken the victory in each of their meetings at tour-level events.

Two of those meetings came at Grand Slam events, with Fritz battling past Zverev at the 2024 Wimbledon championships and the 2024 US Open.

Three of the 27-year-old’s wins in the streak have also come at indoor hard-court events, including two at the Laver Cup.
