New Zealand cyclist Nate Pringle has finished second in the men’s under-23 time trial at the World Road Cycling Championships in Rwanda.
Pringle finished just over a minute behind winner Jakob Soderqvist of Sweden over the 31.2km course.
France’s Maxime Decomble was less than half a second behind Pringle in third place.
The course included a couple of climbs and finished on cobbles.
“It’s surreal,” Pringle told Eurosport after the race.
“It was a bit of a surprise, but I don’t really have anything to compare it to.
“I just went as hard as I could and then tried to recover and then I was pretty dead by those cobbles, they were so much harder in person, but it was really fun.”
Pringle won’t compete in the road race as he could not get his other bikes to Rwanda.
The 21-year-old joined Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe Rookies in March.
He won the New Zealand under-23 time trial earlier this year.
