Shudder is readying the next chapter in the popular found footage anthology series “V/H/S.”
The horror streamer announced that the eighth installment will be titled “V/H/S/HALLOWEEN” and is set to be released on the service on Oct. 3 — just in time for the spooky holiday.
Directors helming short films for the anthology were also announced, including:
Bryan M. Ferguson (“Pumpkin Guts”)
Casper Kelly (“Too Many Cooks,” “Adult Swim Yule Log”)
Micheline Pitt-Norman & R.H. Norman (“Cosmetic”)
Alex Ross Perry (“Her Smell,” “Queen of Earth”)
Paco Plaza (“REC,” “Verónica”)
Anna Zlokovic (“Appendage”)
The “V/H/S” franchise began in 2012, with the first installment including short found footage films from Adam Wingard, Ti West, Joe Swanberg and more. Various installments along the way have tweaked the format, including 2014’s viral-video centered “V/H/S: Viral,” year-specific groupings like 2022’s “V/H/S/99” and 2023’s “V/H/S/85,” and last year’s sci-fi horror collection “V/H/S/Beyond.” There have also been two feature-length movies based on short films from the series: 2016’s “SiREN” and 2022’s “Kids vs. Aliens.”
“The Haunting of Hill House” actor Kate Siegel made her directorial debut with the “Stowaway” segment in “V/H/S/Beyond,” and spoke to Variety about why the series was the perfect place to kickstart her career behind the camera.
“‘V/H/S’ has always been a springboard for new and up-and-coming filmmakers,” she said. “It’s a unique situation where you are part of a team, but you’re also an individual, so you have the support of an established franchise, but their mission is to give new filmmakers creative control.”
