Kiwi icon and Hull KR prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has reportedly secured his next role after retirement, set to return to the NRL in a mentorship capacity.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Sydney Roosters will welcome back their club hero in an official role to work with the side’s younger players in 2026.

The 36-year-old will call time on an illustrious playing career at the end of the current Super League season, as he eyes the biggest prize at Old Trafford to complete a historic treble with Hull KR.

The Robins are just 80 minutes away from returning to the Theatre of Dreams, having already claimed the Challenge Cup and the League Leaders’ Shield this year under head coach Willie Peters.

Veteran forward Waerea-Hargreaves has made an influential contribution to Rovers’ success in just one season, having arrived at Sewell Group Craven Park ahead of the 2025 season with more than 300 NRL appearances and 33 international caps for New Zealand.

He is set to return to the Roosters – where he holds the club’s all-time appearances record – and will use his vast experience to mentor the club’s emerging stars.

Waerea-Hargreaves won three NRL premierships with Sydney Roosters, alongside three World Club Challenges and four minor premierships.

Hull KR meanwhile will host their Super League semi-final on Saturday, October 4, as the play-offs get underway this week. In-form Leigh Leopards face Wakefield Trinity on Friday, before Leeds and St Helens battle it out at AMT Headingley Stadium on Saturday.

Reigning Super League champions Wigan Warriors will host the highest-ranked winner from the eliminators in the semi-finals on Friday, October 3.
