WA has recorded nearly a third of Australia’s measles cases this year after health authorities confirmed a new case on Thursday.

The latest list of exposure sites published Thursday afternoon include several chemists, a shopping centre and a cafe.

The Department of Health said the latest case is linked to a previously reported case.

It’s the sixth case reported this month after several fly-in, fly-out workers from a Pilbara mine site contracted the highly contagious virus.

Qantas flights between the Christmas Creek Mine site 145km north of Newman and Perth became exposure sites after workers travelled while infectious.

And it prompted health authorities to urge FIFO workers to check their jab records to see if they are fully immunised.

There have been 39 cases of measles in WA this year, the majority of which have been reported in the Perth metro area.

But that number is set to increase as school holidays kick off this weekend, with several popular travel destinations — including Bali — experiencing severe measles outbreaks.

Anyone planning overseas travel should see their GP to discuss appropriate vaccinations before departure.

Babies as young as six months can receive a measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine prior to travel to countries where measles is prevalent.

Measles is a highly transmissible virus and usually develops between seven and 10 days after exposure, but can manifest as late as 18 days.

Initial symptoms include cough, fever, runny nose and fatigue, followed by a red blotchy rash three or four days later. The rash usually starts on the face before spreading to the rest of the body.

Anyone who has visited the below locations during the days and times listed should watch for symptoms and seek medical advice if symptoms occur.

People who have received two measles jabs and those born before 1966 are considered immune to measles.
