King Charles Gives Queen Camilla New Title, One That Marks a Royal First originally appeared on Parade.
King Charles gave his wife, Queen Camilla, a new title ahead of her 78th birthday.
On Wednesday, July 16, Queen Camilla was busy with multiple royal engagements, including one for which she was named Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom.
“The Royal Navy have appointed The Queen as Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom at a ceremony on HMS Astute to mark the end of the Submarine’s first commission,” the royal family captioned an Instagram update from the outing.
Queen Camilla is the first woman to receive the honorary title, which can only be appointed by the reigning monarch after a nomination by the First Sea Lord—currently, Sir Gwyn Jenkins.
“Each time I have met your Commanding Officers and visited the submarine, I am reminded of the exceptional servicemen and women in our Royal Navy,” she said of the visit.
Queen Camilla’s honor was on the same day she visited Little Bridge House, which is part of Children’s Hospice South West, in Barnstaple, England. During that appearance she met with staff, volunteers and family members of patients as the hospice celebrated its 30th anniversary.

During the appearance, Queen Camilla admitted that she used to think hospices were “sad places,” but now understands they are “completely uplifting,” BBC reported.
She continued, “Everyone who works in them and makes them such happy places deserve a huge, huge thank you.”
