Home and Away shocked viewers last night with a dramatic twist involving one of its most beloved characters.

Wednesday’s episode ended with a devastating hit-and-run, revealing Theo Poulos — played by Matt Evans — as the victim. The incident unfolded following the much-anticipated wedding of characters Cash and Eden.

In a heroic moment, Theo throws himself in front of a speeding car to save his on-screen girlfriend, Lacey, portrayed by Evans’ real-life partner, Sophea Pennington.

The emotional final scene shows Theo’s aunt Leah, played by Ada Nicodemou, being notified by police before rushing to the scene.

Fans were left reeling, unsure of Theo’s fate, but on The Morning Show today, Evans confirmed the heartbreaking news … his character has died.

Speaking with hosts Kylie Gillies and Dr Chris Brown, who is standing in for Larry Emdur, Evans shared he watched his final episode — filmed four months ago — with a group of friends the night it aired.

“I’ll say if you were sad last night, tonight is going to be a whole another level,” Evans said.

He revealed it was surreal to play dead while the other actors had to carry on filming around him.

“I think it was quite a shock for a lot of people,” he said.

“Like people knew a character was going to die, but they didn’t know it was really Theo.

“And it happened so quick as well.”

We were first introduced to Theo, Leah’s nephew, in 2021, when the troubled teen turned up on her doorstep accompanied by Cash, who had pulled him over for speeding.

“It was so surreal when I first started and then you sort of get used to it,” Evans revealed during a 2023 interview.

“But every now and then you check yourself and it still is that surreal feeling — especially when you grow up in a household where you watched it every single night.

“It’s such a cool thing to be a part of, and everyone involved in this show is just so great. So I’m just very, very lucky.

“You see those little clips of us playing at the beach and we were actually genuinely having a lot of fun.”

Despite his final episode airing, Evans said he will still continue to watch the show.

“I’ll watch it with my partner Sophea tonight because she does an amazing performance in this next episode as well,” he added.

Evans revealed he has already started auditioning for roles in Hollywood and he’s excited for what’s next.
