Libec Updates Tripod Lineup With LX-7R and LX-5R Systems

Libec has announced updates to its LX series tripod systems, introducing the LX-5R, LX-5RM, LX-7R, and LX-7RM. The LX-7R stands out as a robust 75 mm two-stage system aimed at professional shooters needing stability, accessory flexibility, and portability for run-and-gun setups. Let’s take a closer look.

Libec (Heiwa Seiki Kogyo Co., Ltd.) is a Japanese company originally focused on tripods and fluid heads for professional video users. Over time, the company expanded its product range to include pedestal systems, jib arms, remote heads, dolly and tracking rails, sliders, and other camera support gear.
To meet evolving demand, Libec invests in product design, materials, and lightweight engineering to improve functionality, durability, and usability. Internationally, Libec has established subsidiaries in the U.S., Taiwan, and Singapore to support global sales, manufacturing, and marketing.

The LX-7R replaces the long-running LX-7, building on its reputation for rigidity while adding new usability features. Key updates include three sets of ¼-inch and ⅜-inch accessory ports on the tripod head base, allowing filmmakers to mount monitors, lights, or wireless transmitters directly to the system without relying on external rigs.

The tripod now comes standard with a removable carrying handle, designed to ease transportation on fast-moving productions. Its safety-focused leg architecture helps avoid finger pinching during collapse, while die-cast aluminum leg locks offer field durability.

In terms of specs, the LX-7R supports a payload of up to 8 kg (17.5 lb), offers a tilt range of +90° to –80°, and operates between –20 °C and +60 °C (–4 °F to +140 °F). The head uses a fixed counterbalance system with smooth drag behavior, aided by a multi-layer metal drag unit and silicon grease to manage backlash.

The system’s legs extend from 56 cm to 166 cm, and the full setup weighs 5.5 kg. This compromises between sturdiness and portability, making it suitable for documentary, ENG, corporate, and event work.

The LX-5R and LX-5RM serve as the lighter counterparts to the LX-7 series, designed for users who require a compact yet stable support system. Both versions feature the same updated RT30RB tripod base with integrated accessory ports and the standard carrying handle for easier transport. The LX-5R supports a payload of up to 5 kg (11 lb), with a tilt range of +90° to –80°, making it suitable for smaller camera setups such as DSLR and mirrorless rigs, lightweight cinema cameras, or compact broadcast configurations. Weighing 5.2 kg and extending from 81 cm to 165.5 cm, the LX-5R balances portability with functionality, making it a practical option for documentary shooters, educational productions, and mobile crews working with lighter gear.

Both the LX-7R and LX-5R tripods introduce several practical upgrades aimed at improving usability in professional environments. Each system includes three sets of 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch accessory ports on the head base, enabling stable mounting of monitors, lights, or other tools without extra rigging. The upper leg locks, made of die-cast aluminum, provide a durable and secure structure, while the safety-minded leg design reduces the risk of pinching during setup or collapse.

A removable carrying handle comes as standard, making transport easier for run-and-gun production styles. Additionally, the smooth drag unit uses a layered metal build and silicon grease to ensure reliable, consistent operation with reduced backlash, supporting precise camera moves and long-term durability.
