Nine is in grand final mode, broadcasting an NRL GF special for two and a half hours for more than 1.5 million Aussies. Titled NRL Grand Final Countdown, James Bracey accompanied by the NRL team, celebrated the incredible 2025 season, whilst looking ahead to Sunday’s blockbuster big dance.
Nine’s NRL team hosted special guests in the captains and coaches of both NRL and NRLW teams, the Trbojevic brothers, James Maloney and Keli Holiday. However, fans were hardly engaged as the grand final special only pulled in a national TV average audience of 275,000.
In an unscripted funny segment, one of the hosts and NRL legend, Cameron Smith was stitched up when the cameras caught him dropping an NRL premiership ring.
Before the show went to air Smith couldn’t help himself and had to get a close-up look of what the winning players will receive as part of their reward for winning the NRL Telstra premiership. What was meant to be a harmless encounter of an NRL legend who already has three of his own, turned disaster as the ring slipped out the box and bounced onto the table.
To rub salt into the wound, James Bracey mocked Smith stating, “The cameras are always rolling, you should know that.”
Over on Seven its most watched entertainment program overnight was The Chase, raking in a reach of 1,215,000 and a national average of 625,000. And on 10, Gogglebox with a reach of 984,000 and an average of 595,000. Both beating the average audience produced by Nine’s grand final special.
