The Carlton Football Club has acquired two first round selections as part of the free agency compensation it has received for the departures of Tom De Koning and Jack Silvagni.
After receiving pick No.19 earlier today for unrestricted free agent Jack Silvagni, the Club has also acquired a top 10 selection in this year’s draft, currently pick No.9, for the departure of Tom De Koning.
Despite being a restricted free agent, the Club was not prepared to match the terms of De Koning’s contract offer and as a result has acquired the high-end selection.
The Club now currently holds selections 9 and 20 in the first round of this year’s draft, as well as picks No. 39, 47 and 65.
Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said obtaining multiple first round selections will play a key role in the Club’s list management strategy.
“Receiving picks 9 and 19 obviously strengthens our draft hand considerably,” Austin said.
“Multiple first round selections is a great position for us to be in ahead of November’s draft and we will look to maximise these assets accordingly in line with our overall list management strategy.”
