Aston Villa have reportedly had an offer for Toulouse prospect Jaydee Canvot rejected.

BirminghamLive previously revealed that Villa had identified defender Canvot as a player of interest earlier this summer, with their admiration potentially leading to a formal approach as the transfer window progressed.

According to The Athletic, a bid has now been turned down by Toulouse, although discussions between the two clubs are ongoing.

Canvot has attracted attention from several clubs and recently impressed scouts while representing France at the Maurice Revello Tournament, which they went on to win.

The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season in Ligue 1 last year and is reportedly valued at around £20 million by Toulouse.

Canvot is said to be keen on a move to Villa, and if the two clubs can agree a fee, personal terms are not expected to pose an issue.

Villa are currently in the market for a right-sided defender following Axel Disasi’s return to Chelsea after his loan spell during the second half of last season.

Canvot signed his first professional contract with Toulouse in June of last year and made his senior debut in September against Stade Brest.
