The biggest storyline for the Philadelphia Eagles this week has revolved around the discontent of star wide receiver A.J. Brown, who caught just two passes for seven total yards in the team’s recent 31-25 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This came just a week after Brown had 109 receiving yards in the team’s thrilling 33-26 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Recently, Brown added fuel to the fire by posting a cryptic quote on social media that has since been deleted.
While fans may not love Brown’s petulance, the Eagles are clearly not using their ultra-talented wide receiver to his full capabilities, something for which former league MVP Cam Newton recently put the team on blast.

“The truth is, the play selection of how you’re using A.J. Brown is bland,” said Newton on ESPN’s “First Take.” “It is simple. It’s like, yo, put him in motion. Get him out of just this typical X receiver isolation. … We all know that Jalen Hurts is capable, but Jalen Hurts is never asked to consistently win games with his arm.”

Newton, like Jalen Hurts, was a mobile quarterback who was able to win games with his legs, but it’s safe to say that if the former Carolina Panthers star had gotten a chance to play with a receiver as talented as Brown, he would have found a way to get him the ball more often than what Philadelphia is doing.
Instead, Hurts didn’t complete a single pass in the second half of the team’s win over Tampa Bay over the weekend, and Philadelphia’s offense went stagnant as a result, having to rely on the team’s defense to hold on for the win down the stretch.
However, one thing that can’t be argued is that the Eagles have been winning more consistently than any team over the last year-plus, so it’s unlikely they’ll be changing things too drastically anytime soon.
The Eagles (4-0) host the Broncos (2-2) at 1 p.m. ET Sunday on CBS.
