There is trouble brewing in the Philadelphia Eagles camp, as tensions between the team and star receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith continue to mount. The team has two of the most talented receivers in the game, but this new Philly offense is focusing more on a run-heavy style of play.

The lack of targets, touchdowns, and yards led to Brown venting his frustrations on social media. A scripture on his X page read,  “If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way.”

This led to plenty of speculation that the Eagles receiver could request a trade. However, he clarified that he is good with the team. Still, there are plenty of rumors building around the situation, and the Eagles may need to make some drastic moves.

NFL insider Dianna Russini reported ont he situation, revealing comments made by unnamed executives and GMs in the NFL.

“Still, as one league source put it: ‘Right now, for the Eagles, it’s run, run, run, (Jalen) Hurts off-schedule pass, tush push. For their receivers, that means when they get to the red zone, they aren’t getting the ball — and they know it. Hence the frustrations.'”

The Eagles rely heavily on their “tush push” play, which could be banned in 2026. With time potentially ticking on the play, the team is naturally going to use it while they can. This is just speculation, but there are plenty of players and analysts who have been critical of the play due to the potential for it to allow players to jump offside.

Though the run-heavy offense is naturally going to leave Smith and Brown on the outside looking in when it comes to production, there is a GM who believes the way the Eagles offense has evolved will lead to both having to be moved, considering their $50 million pay.

“They are paying roughly $50 million to two wide receivers (Brown and Smith), and they aren’t even that involved,” one NFL GM told me. “They may move on simply because Philly is a run-heavy team.”

With elite players like Saquon Barkley, along with Jalen Hurts being able to get chunk yardage on the ground, it’s not a surprise that the Eagles team won’t fix what isn’t broken. What they do works, and that could lead to both Smith and Brown being moved.

Russini also indicated that Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager have had internal conversations with Brown, and also on the state of the offense without using their receivers. There is still plenty of the 2025 season left, but for Brown to have 151 yards and one touchdown and Smith to have 158 yards and one touchdown through four games is shocking.

The Eagles may need some time to get everyone involved, as they are finding success currently in their run-heavy style. However, if both Smith and Brown continue to fly under the radar with targets and production, Philadelphia may be forced to make some drastic decisions.
