Afghan mixed martial arts fighter Abdul Karim Badakhshi defeated France’s Giovanni Fernandez in a professional bout early Sunday, marking his return to competition after a year-long break.
The fight took place in France as part of the 18th KOC (Knockout Championship) event in the 62-kilogram weight division, organizers said.
The 27-year-old Badakhshi, who previously competed in Russia’s Absolute Championship Akhmat (ACA) promotion, improved his professional record to eight wins and three losses with the victory. His last fight was recorded on Aug. 16, 2024, in the ACA promotion.
Fernandez entered the cage with a record of three wins and four losses and now holds five defeats following the bout. His previous fight took place on Sept. 13, 2025, under the CWFC (Cage Warriors Fighting Championship) organization.
Badakhshi, one of Afghanistan’s prominent MMA athletes, has represented the country in several international competitions and is considered among the pioneers of Afghan mixed martial arts on the global stage.
