The American League Division Series got off to an unexpected start Saturday. The mighty New York Yankees offense was limited to one run in a blowout loss to the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays.

In the other series, the Detroit Tigers, who blew a massive division lead late in the season, managed a tight win over the Seattle Mariners in extra innings to take an early lead in the series.

After two tough losses, the Yankees and Mariners are eager to even the series Sunday.

The Yankees will have that opportunity first. Ace Max Fried will take the mound for New York in a matchup against upstart rookie Trey Yesavage. Fried turned in a strong start the last time the two teams met, giving up three runs over seven innings in a win.

After picking up a win Saturday night, the Tigers will send ace Tarik Skubal to the mound Sunday. Skubal was dominant in his first postseason start, striking out 14 Cleveland Guardians in the wild-card round. It won’t be an easy matchup for veteran Luis Castillo, who will take the mound for the Mariners in Game 2.
