RICHMOND, Va. – The Bucknell men’s tennis team saved its best for last at Richmond’s River City Open, going 5-1 in completed singles matches and 3-0 in doubles on the final day of the round-robin tournament.
No. 43 Amar Tahirovic and Adam Stavrakas both won singles matches for the third straight day. Tahirovic defeated James Madison’s Esteve Agusti 6-4, 6-1, and Tahirovic clipped Navy’s Nathan Nguyen 7-6, 6-2.
Brendan McDonald, Shiv Singh, and Nelson Alapi also won their matches on Sunday. McDonald capped off a 2-1 weekend with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 win over Dylan Chou of William & Mary. The sophomore duo of Singh and Alapi both defeated opponents from Navy in straight sets, and they also teamed up to beat the Midshipmen’s Kai Edwards and Zack Giertz 6-0 in doubles.
Tahirovic and McDonald beat JMU’s Agusti and Guv LIbal 6-2, and Stravrakas paired with Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega for a 6-1 win over Navy’s Zachary Quattro and Ethan Garcia.
