BRONCOS
Players off contract end of 2026: Adam Reynolds, Ben Hunt, Billy Walters, Coby Black, Cory Paix, Jesse Arthars, Josh Rogers, Payne Haas, Tom Duffy, Hayze Perham
Analysis: Payne Haas became the highest-paid prop in the game when he re-signed with the Broncos in 2023 and he may well reset the market again whenever he puts pen to paper on another deal, whether that is with the Broncos or one of the 17 other teams. At this stage, the Broncos are the firm favourites to keep Haas, with the club having reportedly tabled a three-year, $3.5 million deal. Haas’ agent Ahmad Merhi has already stated on the record that his client is going to stay put in Brisbane, despite the potential allure of a big money offer from the Perth Bears to make him the face of the franchise. Winger Jesse Arthars, meanwhile, has fallen down the pecking order at the Broncos in recent weeks. There would be several other teams he’d start for, so it’s likely he will meet with rival clubs from November 1. Skipper Adam Reynolds is expected to retire at the end of next season, but if there is any potential extension that gets done, it won’t happen for another 9-12 months as was the case this year. 19-year-old Coby Black is being touted as the club’s halfback of the future although it’s worth noting the Broncos signed Cowboys young gun Tom Duffy from next season. Black hasn’t been tested in first grade just yet, but he has been coming along quite nicely in QLD Cup this year. Billy Walters was arguably having his best season as a Bronco before injury struck. The 31-year-old isn’t getting any younger, but he’s proven to be a key and versatile piece for Michael Maguire. Given his age, a deal for him might not be announced until next season.
Potential targets: With the Broncos’ salary cap squeeze and a host of players earning contract upgrades, it’s unlikely they will be in the market for any big-name recruits with Grant Anderson set to land at the Red Hill club.

BULLDOGS
Players off contract end of 2026: Connor Tracey, Enari Tuala, Jack Todd, Kade Dykes, Viliame Kikau, Josh Curran, Marcelo Montoya, Sam Hughes, Zyon Maiu’u
Analysis: Viliame Kikau and Connor Tracey are both off contract at the end of 2026 and will be the highest priorities as far as retention is concerned for the Bulldogs. Tracey has been sensational at fullback for Canterbury, and has phenomenal numbers in 2025. Tracey started at the club as a winger early in the 2024 season, but has made the fullback spot his own and would attract significant interest if he hit the open market. Kurt Mann, who made his State of Origin debut for Queensland this season, is another player off contract at the end of 2026. Mann re-signed with the Bulldogs earlier this year, but that was only on a one-year deal. Marcelo Montoya and Enari Tuala will also be key priorities to consolidate their outside back depth.
Potential targets: Despite the departure of Blake Wilson, it is unlikely the Canterbury club will look to add depth to their outside backs. That is due to the arrival of Queensland under 19s Origin star David Bryenton, who won the Mal Meninga Cup Player of the Year award in 2025. Kade Dykes is also landing in Belmore, while Jonathan Sua is also capable of playing first grade if called upon. Meanwhile, a significant portion of any remaining salary cap space will be taken up by Leo Thompson, who is the marquee forward the club have been looking for.

COWBOYS
Players off contract end of 2026: Braidon Burns, Griffin Neame, Harrison Edwards, Jake Clifford, Jaxon Purdue, Jaxson Paulo, John Bateman, Kai O’Donnell, Kaiden Lahrs, Karl Lawton, Murray Taulagi, Sam McIntyre, Tom Chester
Analysis: Cowboys fans will likely be up in arms if their club doesn’t come to an agreement with Jaxon Purdue, who is a rising superstar. The 20-year-old has been superb in his first full season in the NRL. While he wants to play in the halves, the Cowboys and Purdue have been at their best when he’s played at left centre. A permanent switch to five-eighth will likely be in the Cowboys’ future plans and will be a selling point that the club puts to Purdue when they sit down with him. Born and raised in North Queensland, the Cowboys are clear favourites to retain Purdue, but if a deal isn’t done by November 1, there will be several teams aiming to throw their hat into the ring. Murray Taulagi is one of the games’ premier wingers and should be a priority for the Cowboys. As should Sam McIntyre. Tough as nails and a versatile forward, McIntyre is currently sidelined with injury, but he impressed this season in a range of positions and is a real barometer for this side. Tom Chester is talented, but has been luckless with injuries. Griffin Neame’s best is very good, but he was inconsistent this year. The Cowboys will need a big year from Neame with Jordan McLean now retired and injury concerns over Jason Taumalolo and Coen Hess. Veterans John Bateman, Karl Lawton and Jake Clifford will need massive seasons next year to earn an extension.
Potential targets: The Cowboys already have their replacement for Reece Robson, luring Reed Mahoney north. But outside of that recruit, they have been linked with a potential loan move for Jonah Pezet, who could spend a year alongside Tom Dearden in the halves. North Queensland were also keen on Selwyn Cobbo’s services earlier this year, indicating they are seeking recruits in the outside backs. Sharks gun Mawene Hiroti is without a contract for 2026, but is reportedly in the process of negotiating a new deal to remain in the Shire. Tommy Talau is also without a deal next year, after being let go by Manly. Despite an Achilles injury which could hamper him in 2026, Haze Dunster was released by the Eels and could be a solid cut-price recruit.

DOLPHINS
Players off contract end of 2026: Brad Schneider, Connelly Lemuelu, Francis Molo, Herbie Farnworth, Jake Averillo, Jamayne Isaako, James Walsh, Kodi Nikorima, Max Feagai, Oryn Keeley, Ray Stone, Trai Fuller, Selwyn Cobbo
Analysis: The Dolphins aren’t prepared to allow Herbie Farnworth to hit the open market on November 1, with The Courier Mail reporting last month they want to lock the 25-year-old in on a long-term deal worth around $1 million per season. Selwyn Cobbo will join the Dolphins in 2026 on a one-year deal, but there are already calls for him to return to the Broncos in 2027, while a big-money move to a new franchise could also be on the cards considering their open slather salary caps. Broncos utility Billy Walters has said he is hopeful Cobbo will be back at the club in the future, and Cobbo himself has indicated he may return to Brisbane. “With the salary cap, that’s footy. You won’t always get the team you always want to get. I will do one year at the Dolphins and who knows what happens, I could be back here in a couple of years,” Cobbo was quoted as saying by Yahoo. Meanwhile, there were reports Kodi Nikorima could be part of a swap deal for Warrington halfback George Williams, but that was denied by Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf. The Dolphins will be keen to re-sign winger and goal kicker Jamayne Isaako, as well as the versatile Jake Averillo, who can cover anywhere in the backline.
Potential targets: The Dolphins have Morgan Knowles (St Helens), Selwyn Cobbo (Broncos) and Brad Schneider (Panthers) arriving ahead of 2026, but are still reportedly on the look-out for a playmaker to replace Kodi Nikorima. As forementioned, Williams looks the likely man to land at the NRL newcomers, with Code Sports reporting he has signed a two-year deal beginning in 2027. Considering their recruits, and that potential deal alongside the players they have to upgrade with fresh contracts, it’s unlikely the Dolphins will go hard elsewhere in the market and do welcome back a wave of big-name forwards after a horror injury toll in 2025.
Kangaroos Announcement – Full Presser | 09:36
DRAGONS
Players off contract end of 2026: Blake Lawrie, Christian Tuipulotu, Damien Cook, Emre Guler, Hame Sele, Hamish Stewart, Jaydn Su’A, Lachlan Ilias, Luciano Leilua, Mathew Feagai, Tyrell Sloan
Analysis: Tyrell Sloan was granted permission to negotiate with other clubs. The Panthers have reportedly shown interest in Sloan and he has also been linked with Catalans in the Super League. Lachlan Ilias hasn’t had the season he would have hoped for at the Dragons and has been linked to a move to the Titans for his third club in three years. Ilias played just seven games in the NRL this season, the last of those coming way back on Anzac Day. The halfback has been stuck behind Kyle Flanagan and Lyhkan King-Togia, which is harsh, considering he guided the Dragons to the NSW Cup Grand Final. With Sharks playmaker Daniel Atkinson joining the Dragons next season, further adding to their stocks in the halves, it’s hard to see Ilias getting a look-in and his best option may to be explore other opportunities. Veteran Damien Cook will be nearly 36 when his Dragons contract comes to an end after the 2026 season and is likely to retire. Jaydn Su’A is a priority re-signing for the Dragons, given their lack of elite forwards and Hamish Stewart is a long-term prospect for the club in the back row. Luciano Leilua and Christian Tuipulotu need big seasons in 2026 to convince Shane Flanagan that they should be part of his future plans.
Potential targets: The Dragons desperately need a halfback and an elite front-rower to turn the club into a top eight contender and Flanagan is on the lookout for both. The Red V have previously been linked with Titans gun Jayden Campbell, but Gold Coast bosses have tabled him a mammoth extension to remain at the club. Josh Kerr also returns to the Dragons, but their biggest target is undoubtedly Titans star Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, who is set to hit the open market come November 1. The Bulldogs and Perth Bears are also reportedly interested in his services, but The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield revealed the Red V are ready to make a big play to sign him. “I’m told St George have gone in with an absolutely massive offer. It’s going to be the richest offer in St George Illawarra history for a player,” he said on Triple M in August.
SEVEN debuts in Kevvie’s Kangaroos squad | 02:33
EELS
Players off contract end of 2026: Brendan Hands, Charlie Guymer, Dean Hawkins, Dylan Walker, Joash Papalii, Josh Addo-Carr, Junior Paulo, Matt Doorey, Ronald Volkman, Ryan Matterson, Toni Mataele, Will Penisini
Analysis: The big news out of the Eels is star winger Zac Lomax could potentially leave the club to join rebel rugby competition R360, despite having three years to run on his deal. Jason Ryles said he would entertain the idea of releasing Lomax, which would free up money to rebuild his team back into a premiership force. One player that has been linked to the Eels is Storm halfback Jonah Pezet, who is free to leave the Storm either on loan or permanently after Jahrome Hughes re-signed long-term. The Eels sit in a precarious position ahead of the November 1 free agency deadline. Ryles has gone about reshaping his squad, and two names on this list could be on the move. Brendan Hands and Ryan Matterson have already been loaned out for the 2025 season, joining Toulouse Olympique and Warrington Wolves respectively. Parramatta bosses will be hoping they can find permanent moves to open more space on their salary cap, while it remains to be seen if several other stars will be re-signed. Josh Addo-Carr is arguably the biggest name who will come off contract, but has been solid since arriving this season and the club will do what they can to retain his services. Dylan Walker also secured a release from the Warriors, signing on until the end of 2026 and the former Origin star has been impressive in the middle of the park. He’s another priority re-signing for the Eels, while Charlie Guymer, Matt Doorey and Kelma Tuilagi are strong chances of being retained in the forwards, after becoming key figures under Ryles. Junior Paulo’s situation sits at a crossroads and he will be almost 33 by the time his current deal runs out. The Eels could look to retain his leadership, being one of the club’s most experienced players, but it remains to be seen if he will be handed a fresh deal, despite being a first grade regular. Will Penisini, alongside his brother Richard, are also both off-contract and the pair could be a target of expansion franchises in a package deal. Will Penisini is a regular starter though, and the Eels will do what they can to retain the talented outside back. If the Eels land Pezet, Dean Hawkins and Ronald Volkman are likely on their way out of the club, as Joash Papalii has leapfrogged both of them in the pecking order. It’s unlikely both will remain at the club with Lorenzo Talataina emerging as an impressive talent through the club’s pathways system, now playing in NSW Cup.
Potential targets: The Eels will be on the lookout for some more elite forwards in the front row and back row to get them back into title contention. Meanwhile, Code Sports has also reported Pezet is on the club’s radar, with the young gun now a free agent. A Moses and Pezet halves pairing shapes as a scary proposition, and Jason Ryles has links with the Storm, having spent time as the club’s assistant coach. With Lomax potentially on the move, his cap space could be utilised to recruit the rising playmaker. In the forwards, Jack de Belin is arriving, but the likes of Adam Elliott, Tom Ale or Tui Kamikamica could be options available for 2026.
Broncos’ sheds ERUPT after comeback! | 13:55
KNIGHTS
Players off contract end of 2026: Brodie Jones, Dane Gagai, Greg Marzhew, Jack Cogger, Thomas Cant, Tyson Gamble, Tyson Frizell
Analysis: It’s been a disappointing season for Newcastle, who picked up the wooden spoon and had their coach Adam O’Brien fall on his sword. New coach Justin Holbrook has a massive challenge to balance their roster and turn around their form and it could see the club move on from several players on this list in somewhat of a rebuild. Dane Gagai, who just signed on for 2026 with the Knights, and Tyson Frizell will both be 35 by the end of next season. There’s every chance both will hang up the boots at that stage, so don’t expect new deals to be struck with the Knights this year. Winger Greg Marzhew has regressed this year. He’s a metre eater coming out of his own half, but has become less of a try-scoring threat. In just 16 games this season, he has only crossed for four tries. He will garner some interest from other clubs. The Knights meanwhile, might want to see more from him next season before considering an extension offer. Tyson Gamble has been in and out of the first grade side and has so far shown he isn’t the answer in the halves. With Dylan Brown coming to the club on a $13 million deal, Gamble may be shopped around sooner than November 1. Jack Cogger has had some sound moments, but has failed to fire on several occasions during his second stint with Newcastle. He has been linked with a move back to the Panthers as soon as next season. Thomas Cant’s form this season has been solid at best. After playing in just four games in 2023-2024, he’s appeared in 15 games this season. He won’t have a line up of suitors, but a strong end to the season will drive up his value. Middle forward Brodie Jones has been a decent performer and the Knights may be interested in re-upping him for a year or two with an extension.
Potential targets: The biggest thing the Knights need is a halfback and if Brown can’t be their chief playmaker and Kalyn Ponga leaves at the end of his deal in 2027, Holbrook needs to go to market to find one. A move for Jonah Pezet has been ruled out, and Newcastle also welcome a host of players into their squad alongside Brown in Peter Hola (Dolphins), Pasami Saulo (Raiders), Matthew Hunter, Asu Kepaoa (Panthers), Harrison Graham (Dolphins) and Trey Mooney (Raiders). Should they have further cap space to spare, Sandon Smith is the likely man to land in the Hunter, having been deemed surplus to requirements at the Roosters. Multiple reports have revealed he is set to sign a multi-year deal with the Knights.
Walsh details epic turnaround in form | 18:04
PANTHERS
Players off contract end of 2026: Jack Cole, Liam Henry, Lindsay Smith, Luke Garner, Matt Eisenhuth, Scott Sorensen
Analysis: A fairly quiet free agency for the Panthers, considering the players they’ve lost in recent years. Penrith’s powerbrokers will almost certainly focus on retaining key middle forwards Liam Henry and Lindsay Smith. With the departures of James Fisher-Harris and Ativalu Lisati last season, Ivan Cleary would prefer not to lose players who have become key figures in his forward pack. Reports have already emerged Smith is negotiating a new long-term contract, with a source informing the club wants to make him a Panther for life. The 25-year-old made his Kangaroos debut last year and was named in Laurie Daley’s NSW squad earlier this season. Henry, meanwhile, could test his value on the open market according to The Daily Telegraph’s Brent Read. “He might head to November 1 because they haven’t come to the table with an offer yet,” Read said in early August. “Speaking with his management, they want to get a deal done. “The club’s actually reached out to him in the past week or two and said, just wait, we’ll get something done, we want to keep him, but as it stands, he’s heading to November 1.” Scott Sorensen is also a key figure under Ivan Cleary, but it remains to be seen if he will be offered a new deal given he will be 33. But the Panthers may opt to give him a one-year extension to finish his career at the Panthers at the right price. Luke Garner reportedly had been given permission to negotiate with rivals earlier this year for 2026, but Cleary poured cold water on that move, revealing he will see out his current deal. Jack Cole could be on the move after falling down the halves pecking order, with Blaize Talagi now the nailed on No.6. It also remains to be seen if Matt Eisenhuth and Trent Toelau will be offered contracts beyond their current deals.
Potential recruits: The Panthers are looking to bolster their forwards and have been linked with a pair of middles in recent months. According to Zero Tackle, rising Warriors gun Toby Crosby could be making the move across the Tasman, having only began playing rugby league in 2023. The Daily Telegraph is also reporting Tom Ale, also from the Warriors, could be signed by Penrith, and he is currently without a contract in 2026. Elsewhere, it looks unlikely the Panthers will strengthen heavily, with a host of players on long-term, rich deals. However, with Daine Laurie departing for the Raiders, another fullback option could be on the cards, with only Jaxen Edgar remaining at the club in the fullback ranks. Heath Mason and Taine Tuaupiki are potential depth options, who are without a contract in 2027 and wouldn’t cost the Panthers a hefty chunk of their salary cap.
“Just weren’t good enough on the night” | 08:27
RABBITOHS
Players off contract end of 2026: Cody Walker, Jamie Humphreys, Jye Gray, Keaon Koloamatangi, Sean Keppie, Moala Graham-Taufa
Analysis: The big news out of Redfern is that they are targeting David Fifita if he can get a release from the final year of his Titans deal in 2026, which could impact their off-contract stars next season, as they try to make room in their salary cap for the former Origin star. One of the other rare bright spots this season has been Jye Gray at fullback, but he has been linked with a move to the R360 competition. The diminutive fullback has proven time and time again he has to be in the Rabbitohs’ best 17. If Latrell Mitchell is willing to commit to a permanent shift to the centres, Gray should be a priority signing for Souths, but if he moves on they will be on the lookout for a No.1 if Mitchell stays in the centres or converts to five-eighth. The Rabbitohs have both their starting halves in Cody Walker and Jamie Humphreys coming off-contract in 2026. Walker is expected to retire, while Humphreys needs a big season to convince Wayne Bennett he is in his long-term plans. He’ll be battling with rising star and new recruit Jonah Glover for the No.7 jersey in the off-season. The glaringly obvious name that Rabbitohs fans will want their club to lock up before November 1 is Keaon Koloamatangi. The middle forward was outstanding this season and one of the few bright spots for Souths in a tough 2025 campaign, going close to earning a Blues recall and recently being picked for the Kangaroos Ashes squad. Koloamatangi signed a two-year extension with the club in 2023 in the October before the deadline. The fact he only inked two years could be an indication he wanted to see where the club was at, at this time. If that’s the case, Koloamatangi may look to get out of a struggling Rabbitohs team in search of greener pastures. Sean Keppie struggled last season and is unlikely to earn a new deal, unless he improves in 2026 and the price is right.
Potential targets: Souths have watched Adam Reynolds make two Grand Finals and win a premiership since they forced him out of the club and until they find a No.7 they will live to regret the worst blunder in their history. Adding to that calamitous decision, Cody Walker is nearing retirement and Latrell Mitchell might not be far behind him, after saying he might not play past his 30th birthday in the past. Jamie Humphreys is potentially the answer, but he might be a better option at hooker, while Jye Gray is being chased by R360, so Souths could be without halves and a fullback in a year’s time. Mitchell could switch to five-eighth for the back end of his career, which means they still need a No.7 and No.1 to contend for a title. The club should go hard for Jayden Campbell and make him their fullback if Gray leaves and make a big play at Jonah Pezet to build the team around. The Storm star is allowed to leave after Jahrome Hughes re-signed and he could form a devastating partnership with Mitchell and Campbell, with Humphreys at hooker in a new look spine.

RAIDERS
Players off contract end of 2026: Ata Mariota, Chevy Stewart, Josh Papalii, Michael Asomua, Morgan Smithies, Savelio Tamale
Analysis: The Raiders should prioritise re-signing Ata Mariota and locking him down long-term. Josh Papalii has put pen-to-paper on a one-year extension, but when the veteran retires or leaves the club at the end of next season, Mariota can slot in and become the team’s starting front-rower alongside Joe Tapine. Mariota has had an outstanding season in 2025, providing plenty of punch off the bench for the table-topping Raiders. The versatile Simi Sasagi has emerged to become an important part of Canberra’s rotation this season. He’s mostly been used off the bench, but has filled in for Hudson Young on an edge and has also started games in the centres and five-eighth. Ricky Stuart has sung Sasagi’s praises several times in the second half of the season so you’d think the Raiders will be doing everything in their power to keep him in green. Sasagi, of course, may want to test the market especially considering he is currently starting on the bench. Adam Cook is a solid reserve grader, who provides some halfback depth, which will be needed in 2026 with Jamal Fogarty leaving and a young, inexperienced Ethan Sanders set to take over. It appears as if Chevy Stewart will be heading out the door, given the emergence of Kaeo Weekes at fullback. The Dragons and Sharks have been linked to Stewart and they could try and land him as soon as next season. Boom winger Savelio Tamale enjoyed a super impressive rookie campaign, leading the league in tackle busts before a late-season injury. There will be several teams who will be monitoring him, but ultimately, expect the Raiders to lock down the powerful outside back. He’s too good a player to let walk, especially when he was a crucial part of their minor premiership-winning season.
Potential targets: The Raiders have already landed the services of winger Sione Fianu from the Dragons and following him, according to Code Sports, will be Panthers gun Daine Laurie. His arrival could signal an exit for Stewart, who has been linked with a move away from the club. Elsewhere, with Ethan Sanders now set to be the club’s first-choice No.7, it’s clear the team from the nation’s capital are lacking in depth in the halves department. Sasagi and Cook can both fill in, but neither have proven themselves as NRL playmakers. As such, Ricky Stuart is reportedly keen on Jonah Pezet’s services, with it being widely reported he could land at the Raiders. Meanwhile, Cowboys halfback Jake Clifford has previously been linked with a move to Canberra and he comes off-contract come November 1, while Ronald Volkman could be another cheap depth addition. In terms of a more premium option, Jamie Humphreys is also without a deal for 2027 and his utility value likely means he could garner some interest should he hit the open market.
Broncos Stun Storm to Win Premiership | 15:41
ROOSTERS
Players off contract end of 2026: Angus Crichton, Blake Steep, Daniel Tupou, James Tedesco, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Sandon Smith, Siua Wong
Analysis: Several huge Roosters’ names come off contract at the end next season with James Tedesco a priority re-signing for the club after a stunning season in 2025. The skipper had a sensational year and took out his second Dally M medal. The 32-year-old has more than earned himself an extension for 2027 and potentially even 2028. The Roosters won’t let him sign anywhere else and Tedesco is unlikely to want to go elsewhere. Angus Crichton is another player the Roosters will be fighting hard to retain. The edge forward has reportedly told his agent that he only wants to play for the Roosters in the NRL, but has also signalled a desire to switch to rugby union. The chance to follow good friend and former Roosters teammate Joseph Suaalii to union and potentially represent Australia in the 2027 Rugby World Cup could prove alluring. Former Wallaby Mark Nawaqanitawase has already confirmed he will return to rugby union for a shot at the home World Cup himself, which means the Roosters will be on the lookout for a new winger. With Nawaqanitawase moving on, Daniel Tupou could even extend his career beyond 2026 if his body holds up. Siua Wong has become a consistent contributor in the back row and will be a priority for Trent Robinson. Tasked with a larger role because of the departure of several stars in the off-season, Blake Steep has become a fixture in the Roosters’ line up and will be a priority re-signing, especially if Crichton moves on, but the young gun is sure to garner plenty of interest from rivals. Sandon Smith is on this list for now, but he’s expected to link up with a rival team from next season if Daly Cherry-Evans joins the club as expected.
Potential targets: James Tedesco looks set to sign an extension with the Roosters and if his representative career is over it could prolong his NRL career for another couple of seasons. But with Mark Nawaqanitawase returning to rugby league and Daniel Tupou expected to retire, the Roosters will be on the lookout for some quality finishers to fill the void. Alofiana Khan-Pereira is reportedly on the outer at the Titans, but he could be electric on the end of a Roosters backline and with Tedesco and Robert Toia inside him. Another option would be to throw some money at Selwyn Cobbo, who can not only thrive as a finisher in their system, but he could eventually replace Tedesco at fullback in the coming seasons. Another option would be Cowboys flyer Murray Taulagi, who could follow former teammate Reece Robson to Sydney. Daly Cherry-Evans is reportedly on a one year deal, while Crichton is reportedly eyeing a code switch, so that will free up some money in 2027 to chase some big name players. The Roosters could land a big blow on arch rivals Souths, if they convince Keaon Koloamtangi to jump ship to the Tri-colours.

SEA EAGLES
Players off contract end of 2026: Jake Simpkin, Jake Trbojevic, Lachlan Croker, Nathan Brown, Paul Bryan, Reuben Garrick, Tom Trbojevic, Tolutau Koula
Analysis: All eyes will be on Tom and Jake Trbojevic as November 1 approaches. Tom, who is off contract along with his brother at the end of 2026, was close to inking an extension with the club before a misunderstanding over the $800,000 contract angered the superstar fullback. Trbojevic thought the new broadcast deal would see a spike in his pay, but Manly had already included that in the terms of his new deal. The dispute could see him leave Brookvale, with a switch to the Super League on the cards. Jake, meanwhile, is facing a hefty pay cut of around $400,000 to stay a one club player. Currently on $1 million per season, the former Blues skipper has suffered three bad concussions in the last four months, putting his long-term future in some doubt. The older Trbojevic may opt to retire at the end of his current deal, particularly if concussion issues continue in 2026. The Trbojevic brothers will no doubt effect Manly’s ability to re-sign hookers Lachlan Croker and Jake Simpkin and outside backs Reuben Garrick and Tolutau Koula. Manly have lacked an elite hooker for some time, so they will be on the lookout for a star in that position. If Trbojevic stays, Manly may have to let go of Garrick or Koula, given they have Lehi Hopoate on their books, but if Turbo moves on, they will likely have the funds to keep both.
Potential targets: A new era is dawning at the Sea Eagles and it could be without their three highest paid players in recent seasons in Daly Cherry-Evans, Tom Trbojevic and Jake Trbojevic. DCE is already gone, while Turbo is stuck in a stalemate with Manly over the terms of his contract extension, which could force him to join the Super League. And Jake is facing a medical retirement if he continues to have concussion issues next season, while he could hang up the boots at the end of his current deal regardless. Joey Walsh might be the future of the club, but he is far too green to be a win now option and the club has been reluctant to make Luke Brooks their main man. Jamal Fogarty has come to the club to be their halfback, but after his finals performances in 2025, he is hardly a like for like replacement for Cherry-Evans. Manly need a big name half or an elite fullback if Turbo leaves and they may have to wait until 2027 to try and target Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow or Jahream Bula to be their No.1, while Matt Burton looms as a potential five-eighth option to partner with Fogarty until Walsh is ready to take over the No.7 jersey. Manly have also struggled to replace Addin Fonua-Blake since he left the club and a big money play for Payne Haas or even a player like Lindsay Smith might be the answer because they need an enforcer to lead their pack.

SHARKS
Players off contract end of 2026: Billy Burns, Blayke Brailey, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Cameron McInnes, Chris Veaíla, Hohepa Puru, Jesse Colquhoun, Jesse Ramien, Niwhai Puru, Riley Jones, Sam Stonestreet, Sione Katoa, Siosifa Talakai, Toby Rudolf
Analysis: Plenty of big decisions to be made by Sharks powerbrokers as there are several stars that will be free to negotiate with rivals in just under three months. Given they are a loyal club and were one game away from a grand final, expect the Sharks to retain most of the players listed above. Two players the club is considering let walk early are Siosifa Talakai and Braden Hamlin-Uele. Both have one more year left on their deals but Hamlin-Uele has already been granted permission to speak with rivals. KL Iro was in super form before injury struck late in the season. A powerhouse centre in defence, Iro was one of the best attacking centres in the NRL this season before going down with a nasty pec injury that ruled him out until the finals. He scored a try in all nine games in a row this season. Cameron McInnes might have played his last game for the club. The 31-year-old suffered a serious knee injury and will spend a significant amount of time on the sideline. The Bears have McInnes on their ‘hit list’ meaning he could be swayed away from Cronulla with an offer too good to refuse. Edge forward Billy Burns has enjoyed a great season, even keeping Briton Nikora out of the starting line up in the finals. If Brailey and Iro are key retention targets, Jesse Ramien shouldn’t be far behind in the club’s focus, nor should Sione Katoa. Both are talented game-breakers who make this team better, but if the Sharks have to throw big money at the likes of Brailey, Cronulla might not be able to fit both Ramien and Katoa under their cap. Jesse Colquhoun was a very handy contributor for the Sharks in the back half of the season and provides invaluable depth in the middle forwards. In fact, Cronulla won 12 of 18 games Colquhoun played in this season.
Potential targets: The Sharks have fallen short time and again after back-to-back preliminary final exits and they have to face the fact that Nicho Hynes might not be the halfback to win them a premiership. That doesn’t mean they need to get rid of him, but he could switch to five-eighth to allow them to chase a halfback that can take them all the way. Perhaps a reunion with Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf could be on the cards to pair him with Hynes in a new look halves combination. Storm utility Tyran Wishart could be another option or they could wait until the 2027 off-contract class that includes Matt Burton, Cameron Munster, Nathan Cleary and Sam Walker. Granted Burton is the only player likely to leave their current club of those four, but the Sharks can’t keep doing the same thing each year and expect a different result.

STORM
Players off contract end of 2026: Harry Grant, Nick Meaney, Ryan Papenhuyzen, Shawn Blore, Tyran Wishart, William Warbrick
Analysis: Ryan Papenhuyzen has been linked with a move to rebel rugby union competition R360, which kicks off just before next year’s Grand Final on October 2. If he goes, Nick Meaney would be a priority re-signing to vie with Sualauvi Fa’alogo for the fullback jersey. Hooker Harry Grant is on the radar of the Perth Bears. The Bears are free to start signing players on November 1 for their first season in the competition in 2027. The Bears reportedly view Grant as a marquee signing target. With the expansion club keen to make him an offer, Grant spoke about his future earlier this season. He said he was in no hurry to sit down with the Storm. “As a player and a club, we’ve all got really good relationships. Those conversations haven’t happened, but that’ll come when the time’s right and just got to be delicate (about) when that is as well,” Grant said. Tyran Wishart has been linked to a return to his junior club the Dragons, who are on the lookout for an elite halfback. Shawn Blore and William Warbrick will be priority re-signings and the Storm could use Papenhuyzen’s money to lock up Grant long-term.
Potential targets: After losing back-to-back grand finals the Storm need to work out what their missing piece is and it could be a prop after Nelson Asofa-Solomona was suspended for the last two deciders. With reports he is on the outer at the club, the Storm should throw everything they can at a reunion with Tino Fa’asuamaleaui. The Storm tried to get their old prop back last year, before he inked a mega deal with the Titans. The Perth Bears are also keen, but if Tino wants to win he should go back to Melbourne. The Storm also have issues defensively on the edge and if Papenhuyzen moves to R360 then Nick Meaney can vie with Sualauvi Fa’alogo for the fullback spot and they can chase a strike centre. Eels star Will Penisini and Dolphins counterpart Herbie Farnworth would be excellent options to sure up their edge defence and give them more strike in attack.

TITANS
Players off contract end of 2026: Alofiana Khan-Pereira, Arama Hau, Beau Fermor, Brian Kelly, Carter Gordon, David Fifita, Jaimin Jolliffe, Jayden Campbell, Phillip Sami, Sam Verrills, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Tuki Simpkins
Analysis: New coach Josh Hannay has flagged a player clean-out as he tries to mould the roster into his vision for the future. Lachlan Ilias is in talks to join the club as their new halfback, after Kieran Foran’s retirement. There may be high turnover at the struggling Titans next season with several stars set to go off contract. Jayden Campbell is tipped to receive a big money offer from the Perth Bears, with the talented playmaker on the expansion’s club reported ‘hit list’. Campbell has taken great strides this season, but the Titans may not have the deep pockets to match any Bears offer, given they have a lot of their salary cap tied to Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Mo Fotuaika, Keano Kini and AJ Brimson. Campbell has been solid as a half this year, but there’s a view around the league that his best position is at fullback. With Kini and Brimson on the books long term, the Titans may let Campbell head elsewhere. David Fifita is seemingly on the outer at the Titans, with the Rabbitohs looking to sign him for 2025, if he can negotiate a release from the final year of his contract. There have been reports he’s angling for an early release to join Souths. Beau Fermor should be more of a priority for the Titans. He fills a need on the edge where he can look like a world beater at times. His form this season saw him rewarded with a maiden Queensland jersey. Two players who are set to be on the way out are outside backs Brian Kelly and Phil Sami, with the latter linked to the Dragons in a player swap with Ilias. It has been reported that their deals won’t be renewed for 2027.
Potential targets: The Titans need a lot of things but primarily a halfback, which is why they have reportedly been linked to Dragons No.7 Ilias and Knights counterpart Jackson Hastings, but it remains to be seen if they are the circuit breakers than can turn them around. Storm star Tyran Wishart is a player worth investing in as he has the potential to be a long-term No.7. Luke Metcalf is also off-contract with the Warriors in 2026 and would be an ideal player to build around for new coach Josh Hannay. Roosters half Sandon Smith is another player with plenty of upside and he will be looking for a new gig if Daly Cherry-Evans joins the Chooks as expected.

TIGERS
Players off contract end of 2026: Heath Mason, Jack Bird, Jahream Bula, Jarome Luai, Jeral Skelton, Luke Laulilii, Sione Fainu, Solomone Saukuru, Tony Sukkar, Tristan Hope, Mavrik Geyer
Analysis: Jahream Bula and Jarome Luai are the priority re-signings for the Tigers, given the fullback and half are two players they can build around long-term. Luai is yet to opt into his player option beyond 2026, so the Tigers will be hoping he doesn’t exercise his get-out clause and return to the Panthers. Jeral Skelton showed plenty of promise in 2025 and will likely earn an extension with a strong start to 2026. Much has been made about the form of his brothers Samuela and Latu, but Sione Fainu has enjoyed just as good a season in 2025 and deserves an extension. The older Fainu has been excellent in the middle during the Tigers’ late season purple patch. He’s done enough to earn an extension from the club, which is likely as Fainu will no doubt want to continue playing alongside his brothers. He has proven a handful for opposition backlines when he’s had ball in hand, but the highlight has been his hard-hitting defence. He’s a player on an upward spiral and the club should be working hard to sign him to a new deal before rival teams are given the chance. Jack Bird is set to be one casualty in the off-season, with the Tigers giving him permission to leave the club early. Heath Mason, Solomone Saukuru, Tony Sukkar, Tristan Hope, Mavrik Geyer and Luke Laulilii all need big season in 2026 to convince Benji Marshall they should be in his long-term plans.
Potential targets: The Tigers are in need of some more quality forwards and strike centres. Players they could look to target that don’t have deals for 2026 are Knights lock Adam Elliott, Broncos back-rower Jack Gosiewski and Eels prop Wiremu Greig. But if they play the long game they could target Raiders star Morgan Smithies, Sharks lock Jesse Colquhoun and Souths enforcer Keaon Koloamatangi for 2027. In terms of centres the Tigers should make a play for Dolphins centre Herbie Farnworth or Sharks counterpart Jesse Ramien to give them some much needed power on the edge.

WARRIORS
Players off contract end of 2026: Chanel Harris-Tavita, Freddy Lussick, Kurt Capewell, Luke Metcalf, Marata Niukore, Rocco Berry, Taine Tuaupiki, Tanah Boyd, Te Maire Martin
Analysis: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is reportedly close to signing with the Saudi-backed Rugby 360 competition on a deal nearing $1 million a season. Given Tuivasa-Sheck will be on about $550,000 next season with the Warriors, the 2018 Dally M Medallist would nearly double his salary if he jumped ship. Tuivasa-Sheck’s defection will likely mean Taine Tuaupiki and Rocco Berry are re-signed to bolster their outside back depth. Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf also comes off contract at the end of 2026. Given that Metcalf was leading the Dally M Medal count when voting went behind closed doors earlier this season, the Warriors will be keen to lock in his services on a long-term contract. There were reports the Rabbitohs could make a play for Metcalf, but if he can put his injury woes behind him, the Warriors would be mad to let him go. Chanel Harris-Tavita and Te Maire Martin also come off-contract, so the Warriors need to work out who their long-term halves pair is and the odd man out could be moved on. Queensland State of Origin forward Kurt Capewell is also likely to attract significant interest once he hits the open market, despite coming to the back end of his career. But given he is close with Andrew Webster he will likely finish his career at the Warriors, unless he wants to try his luck in the Super League. Marata Niukore is also a priority re-signing for the Warriors, but with nine players coming off contract they can’t keep them all.
Potential targets: With both their halves Metcalf and Harris-Tavita coming off-contract, the Warriors need to decide if they are their long-term combination or whether they need to look elsewhere. Re-signing the pair won’t come cheap with Metcalf potentially earning $1 million a season on the open market. His injury history could be an issue as he makes his way back from an ACL. Of the halves coming off-contract in 2026 Storm star Tyran Wishart, Cowboys five-eighth Jaxon Purdue and Roosters half Sandon Smith are the pick of the players on offer. Of the players without deals for 2026, Jackson Hastings and Sean O’Sullivan could be options, but that is unlikely to make them any better than they are now.
