The Buffalo Sabres placed goaltender Alexandar Georgiev on waivers as the team gets set to open the season on Thursday.
Georgiev, 29, joined the Sabres on a one-year, $825,000 deal on Sept. 12.

The 6-foot-1 netminder finished last season with the San Jose Sharks after he, along with forward Nikolai Kovalenko, and two draft picks, were acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for netminder Mackenzie Blackwood, forward Givani Smith, and a draft pick last December.
He had a 15-26-4 record with a 3.71 goals-against average and .875 save percentage split between the Avalanche and Sharks last season.
Georgiev was within the top two in the NHL in wins prior to last season, recording 40 wins in 2022-23 and 38 wins in 2023-24 while a member of the Avalanche.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Rangers in 2017, Georgiev has a career 151-108-26 record with a .903 save percentage and 2.99 GAA split between the Rangers, Avalanche, and Sharks.
A native of Ruse, Bulgaria, Georgiev represents Russia on the international stage and has a bronze medal from the 2019 World Championship.
The Anaheim Ducks also placed netminder Ville Husso on waivers Tuesday.
Husso, 30, finished last season with the Ducks after he was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings on Feb. 25 for future considerations.
He appeared 13 games last season, going 2-6-3 with an .890 save percentage and 3.47 goals-against average split between the Red Wings and Ducks.
He also had a 15-6-4 record in the AHL split between the Grand Rapids Griffins and San Diego Gulls with a .910 save percentage and 2.64 GAA.
Husso then signed a two-year, $4.4 million extension that carries a $2.2 million cap hit in the off-season.
The 6-foot-3 netminder is entering the first season of a two-year, $4.4 million contract that carries an annual cap hit of $2.2 million.
Drafted 94th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2014, Husso has a career 71-46-19 record with a .901 save percentage and 3.05 GAA split between the Blues, Red Wings, and Ducks.
