The West Coast Eagles have today farewelled Oscar Allen after deciding not to match Brisbane’s offer to the restricted free agent.

The Eagles have received first round free agency compensation – pick No.2 overall – and now hold the first two selections in next month’s Telstra AFL Draft.

Allen departs after playing 105 games since he was drafted from West Perth with pick 21 in 2017.

He kicked 53 goals and finished runner-up in the 2023 Club Champion award before being appointed co-captain for the past two seasons.

“Oscar has made a significant contribution to our Club and gave his all every time he represented the West Coast Eagles,” Head of Football John Worsfold said.

“The Club continued to negotiate with Oscar and his management group throughout the year however we were unable to reach a suitable agreement.

“We understand the landscape of free agency and the players’ right to explore, and we have decided not to match Brisbane’s offer presented to Oscar.

“As a result, we have received free agency compensation at selection No.2 overall, which will allow us to add more elite young talent via the draft in line with our list management strategy.

“As we farewell Oscar, we wish him and his fiancée Lorna every success for their next chapter.”

West Coast currently holds picks 1, 2, 13, 34, 38, 53 and 58 in November’s national draft, with a week remaining in the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, powered by Tyrepower.
