Two goals from football star Mo Salah helped Egypt seal their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as part of a dominant 3-0 away win over Djibouti on Wednesday [October 9].
It means the northern African team qualify top of Group A with one game remaining.
Ibrahim Adel put the Pharaohs ahead in the 8th minute at the Stade Larbi Zaouli before Salah added the second six minutes later. The Liverpool forward scored the third goal with a beautiful lob inside the box in the 84th minute.
Salah has now scored nine goals in the African qualification for the 2026 World Cup, making him the top scorer.
This will be Egypt’s fourth appearance at the World Cup after missing out on Qatar 2022, having previously qualified in 1934, 1990 and 2018. The team has never advanced past the group stages.
Egypt joins Morocco and Tunisia as the other three African teams qualified for the 2026 World Cup.
Nine African teams will qualify for the expanded 48-team finals to be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
