Celtic deserve a lot of praise for some of the players who have come to the club of late.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Kyogo Furuhashi are some of Celtic’s best signings since 2020, and a huge reason behind why there has been so much success.

For every standout player, however, there is a hidden gem that goes about their business quietly and get their flowers once they leave.

Those unsung heroes are just as important as the 20-goal strikers, and here at 67 Hail Hail, we want to single them out.

So, with that, here are the five most underated signings Celtic have made since 2020.

5. Alex Valle

Alex Valle’s time at Celtic was short but sweet and left fans wondering why he didn’t play more often.

Competing with Greg Taylor for a starting spot made things somewhat difficult, but he still managed to rack up five assists in his 19 appearances for the club.

Valle’s loan was cut short in January 2025 after Cesc Fabregas decided to make an offer with an obligation to buy for Como.

He is now playing with Nicolas Kuhn at Como.

4. Carl Starfelt

Signed from Russian Premier League side Rubin Kazan, there was a lot of expectation placed on Carl Starfelt.

Because of this, fans tended to judge him a lot harsher than he perhaps deserved, but the Sweden international was always solid.

He played his part in three Scottish Premiership title wins and was a key figure in Ange Postecoglou’s early days.

As well as having a brilliant chant, Giorgos Giakoumakis was also very underrated.

Coming in as the back-up to Kyogo was always going to be a difficult test, but the Greek striker more than played his part.

His physical presence made him a nightmare to deal with, and people also forget that he was the joint-top goal scorer in the Scottish Premiership, despite playing 21 games fewer in the 2021/22 season.

Giakoumakis has said he’d like to play for Celtic again one day, and he would no doubt be welcome back with open arms.

2. Aaron Mooy

The definition of one season and done: Aaron Mooy was terrific for Celtic.

There were initial hesitations around the decision to bring him in on a free transfer following a brief stint in China, but the Australian soon silenced those doubters.

Mooy became a key component of Postecoglou’s side and offered balance in the middle of the park, allowing others around him to flourish.

He retired at the end of that season, but he definitely deserves his flowers.

1. Liam Scales

There was only ever going to be one player at the top of the tree, and that had to be Liam Scales.

Despite being made out to be a scapegoat at times, Scales has been entrusted by every manager that has been at the club.

Under Brendan Rodgers, the Ireland international has become the number one option alongside Carter-Vickers.

Sure, there are more skilled players in the squad, but none as spirited and hardworking as Scales. The Hoops would be a lot worse without him.
