The two winners of the Hahn Australia Cup play-offs – Perth Glory and Wellington Phoenix – will face off in the Round of 32 in a Cup Distance Derby on Sunday afternoon.

The Glory defeated the Mariners 3-2 in a dramatic extra-time thriller in Darwin in May, while the Phoenix took down the Roar 1-0.

There will be a multitude of changes for both teams as they adjust from the end of one season to the start of the next.

The Phoenix will come into the game with slightly more match fitness after their 1-0 victory over Wrexham in a preseason friendly last week. The young Phoenix side showed what they are made of, with 19-year-old academy product Luke Flowerdew scoring the only goal of that game.

It is expected that Head Coach Giancarlo Italiano will call on a similar-looking side to take on the Glory, as they hope to give themselves the best chance to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Perth Glory Head Coach David Zdrilic said that he was looking forward to giving the team’s supporters something to cheer about in the Cup after a disappointing A-League Men’s season last time out.

The Glory are two-time finalists in the Hahn Australia Cup, but have never lifted the trophy.

Perth may just about have the psychological advantage over their opponents, defeating the Phoenix 2-0 at Sky Stadium in the league the last time that they met.

It is an intriguing look at what 2025/26 may bring for supporters of both teams on the opposite sides of the competition.
