CLOQUET, Minn. – The Macalester College men’s tennis team kicked off the 2025-26 season with a non-conference dual against UW-Superior Saturday afternoon at Cloquet High School. The Scots battled but came up just short, 4-3.
Macalester’s tandem of first year Derek Chen (South Kingstown, R.I./Moses Brown School) and sophomore Zach Dajani (Singapore/Singapore American School) won their match at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, but the Yellowjackets won the other two doubles matches to take the doubles point. In singles, Chen was victorious at No. 3 singles, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 10-7, senior Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, and first year Charles Flaman (Calgary, Alberta/Rundle College) earned the win at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2. But the fourth point proved to be elusive for Macalester. The clinching match came at No. 6 singles, where sophomore Beckett Annes (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) fell to Keanu Lin, 7-5, 3-6, 10-6.
The Scots will resume its schedule in the spring.
