Odel Kamara wants to finish the year on a high by winning a gold medal at the upcoming World Boxing Cup in India. Kamara claimed a bronze medal at the inaugural World Boxing Championships that took place at the M&S Bank Arena last month.
Part of Great Britain’s Olympic programme, the Salisbury ABC man bowed out of the competition after being beaten in the semi-finals by Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan. The 21-year-old had been flawless on his way to the final four, but he was beaten 4-1 on the cards in his 70kg showdown.
But despite suffering heartbreak on home soil, Kamara believes he has shown he belongs at the top level and now wants to end a memorable 2025 by returning from India with a gold medal.

“I would describe my 2025 season as extremely successful – I was able to join an elite group of just 14 British men who have medalled at the World Championships, and I proved that I belong at the top,” he said.
“It doesn’t get any better than that. With every fight, I’ve evolved and adapted, improving my style tenfold.
“I can’t wait to keep showing everyone a better version of myself every time I step into the ring.
“The level of the events has been unbelievable – the time and effort that go into organising them shouldn’t go unnoticed.

“I’m glad that Olympic-style boxing is finally getting the recognition and respect it deserves for the incredible level of competition it delivers.
“It’s an honour to be part of such an elite group of world medalists, and I’m proud to have made myself, my family, my city, and my country proud.
“The biggest lesson I’ve learnt is to enjoy every single moment – to embrace everything I can from the experience, because it’s all over in the blink of an eye.
“I definitely plan to compete in India and finish the year strong – with a gold medal.”
