Where things currently stand with Simpkin’s move to Collingwood

As things stand, it appears highly unlikely Jy Simpkin will play anywhere but North Melbourne next year.

The Kangaroos have put a big asking price on their skipper’s head, reported to be either two first-round picks or one single-digit first-rounder, which teams appear to have baulked at so far.

Here’s Sam Edmund with the latest on that front.

Ainsworth ‘disappointed’ not to reach ultimate glory with Suns

Ben Ainsworth was one of the players who did get his move during the first week of the trade period.

Ainsworth joins Carlton where he is essentially a replacement for Corey Durdin, who was traded to Port Adelaide.

“I am disappointed there was no opportunity to get the unfinished business at the Suns, but I am excited to be at the Blues now and help turn them around,” he told Trade Radio.

“The opportunity to play a more unstructured role at Carlton was really appealing to me. I can’t wait to get into the Blues setup.

“I absolutely could have stayed, but when you hear in the background they say to explore your options, you wonder and you get moving on what is the best for myself and my family.”

Curnow’s reported sacrifice to force through Geelong move

Geelong had an offer for Charlie Curnow turned down by Carlton last week, but Curnow hasn’t lost hope.

According to SEN’s Sam Edmund, Curnow’s preference remains Geelong, but he is “open” to a move to Sydney as well.

“Willing to take a haircut to sit between $800,000 – $900,000 over the course of his next four years, so basically shelving a million bucks just to get out of Carlton and get to Geelong,” Edmund told AFL Trade Radio.

Here’s the full audio of him discussing where things currently sit.

McRae’s reported chat with Rowbottom revealed

This was the other interesting nugget to come out of the weekend.

Seven’s Mitch Cleary reported that Collingwood coach Craig McRae had made contact with Sydney midfielder James Rowbottom.

Rowbottom is managed by Matt Bain and Bain told Trade Radio last week that he “can’t see” a move happening for the 25-year-old.

Rowbottom is contracted by Sydney through 2028.

The Bulldogs and Giants look set to shuffle some picks

The big trade news from the weekend was the reported deal between GWS and the Western Bulldogs.

According to Cal Twomey, it’s a deal that should open the door for the Bulldogs to land Connor Budarick from Gold Coast.

Welcome!

Good morning and welcome to ABC Sport’s live coverage of the AFL trade period!

We’re into day six now and officially the second week after a weekend where no trades were allowed to be lodged.

Trading can commence once again from 9am AEST today so it’ll be interesting to see how many go through officially.

It’s sure to be entertaining as always and I’m excited to take on all your questions where possible.

I’ll start things off before Dean Bilton joins me in a couple of hours.

VAMOS!
