FANS have given Chaz Mostert the chance to drown his sorrows after the #25 Walkinshaw Andretti United Mustang succumbed to an engine issue.

Mostert had put the Mobil 1 Optus Ford third on the grid, and the car had been solid inside the top five through the opening chunk of the race.

However, the car started to sound more and more ill as the race progressed, to the point where it was clear the problem was sinister.

Sure enough, Mostert was forced to park at the Chase on Lap 58 just as the field was heading to a Safety Car restart.

That Safety Car had been prompted by Tony D’Alberto crashing the #17 Shell V-Power Mustang at Forrest’s Elbow.

Mostert is the second Bathurst 1000-winning driver to retire with an engine failure, following the #10 Bendix Camaro of Nick Percat/Tim Slade.
