The Australian government’s world-first ban on social media for young people has been criticised as being unworkable and unclear, with no final list of which platforms are included less than 60 days from the law coming into effect.
At least 1.5 million accounts are set to be deactivated across TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, YouTube and X (formerly Twitter) on December 11, when a law to lift the minimum age from 13 to 16 years old comes into effect.
