Olympiacos vs Anadolu Efes Preview

In the previous EuroLeague round, Olympiacos delivered their best performance since the start of the season, convincingly defeating Dubai at home with a score of 86–67. In the first two rounds, the team from Piraeus showed significantly weaker performances than expected, but the reasons can be found in a large number of injured players, as well as the fact that both games were away against Spanish teams. In those two games, Olympiacos recorded one win and one loss, currently holding a 2–1 record. However, more than current form, head coach Georgios Bartzokas is concerned about the team’s injury situation, as a significant portion of the backcourt remains sidelined.

One of the key issues in Olympiacos’ first two games was inconsistency. They struggled heavily against Baskonia, despite a strong opening and building a serious lead in the first quarter. Against Real Madrid, Olympiacos looked dominant for three full quarters, but completely collapsed in the fourth. They didn’t score their first basket until more than five minutes had passed, and the final period ended 25–8 in favor of the home team, so it’s no surprise Olympiacos returned home with a 1–1 split from those two matchups. Still, things fell into place against Dubai. Olympiacos played a complete game with no drop-offs in intensity — they won the first three quarters, and the final one ended in a tie. The Greek side, led by the excellent Sasha Vezenkov, built an early lead that only grew as the game progressed. Tyler Dorsey has also been in great form to start the season, taking advantage of the opportunity created by backcourt injuries. He’s averaging over 15 points per game through three rounds, and will now get help in playmaking from Frank Ntilikina, who was urgently brought in from Partizan to improve Olympiacos’ offensive organization. Frank Ntilikina started against Dubai, and coach Bartzokas praised his performance post-game, calling on fans to give the French international time and space to integrate into the team.

After their visit to Belgrade, where they returned empty-handed from the clash against Partizan, Anadolu Efes faces another difficult road game. This time, they head to Piraeus to face one of the main EuroLeague title contenders — but there’s no doubt that Igor Kokoskov’s squad believes they can pull off an upset. The Turkish side had a rough logistical start to the season, as their first two games — although technically home games — were played in Podgorica against Israeli teams. After that, they played a very tough and demanding match against Partizan, which the Serbian team won 93–87.

One piece of good news for the Serbian head coach of Anadolu Efes is that the team’s injury report is improving. P.J. Dozier returned from injury and started against Partizan but didn’t deliver a strong performance — something coach Igor Kokoskov acknowledged after the game, while also taking responsibility for it. Additionally, Shane Larkin appears ready and motivated, and the new arrivals — Jordan Loyd, Nick Weiler-Babb, and Isaia Cordinier — have already proven to be major additions. The French forward in particular was inspired in Belgrade, finishing with 24 points. Alongside him, Ercan Osmani also had an excellent performance for Anadolu Efes, ending the game with 21 points and continuing his strong run following a standout showing at the EuroBasket. The impression is that this Anadolu Efes squad has tremendous potential and quality in the backcourt, but currently lacks depth at the center position. Vincent Poirier will remain out due to injury for some time, while Kai Jones has yet to show he can make an impact at the EuroLeague level. Interestingly, Anadolu Efes played at the slowest pace of all EuroLeague teams in the first three rounds and had the fourth-worst three-point shooting percentage (32.1%). However, they lead the league in two-point shooting percentage (61.5%) and rank fifth in offensive rating. Against Olympiacos, Anadolu Efes will need to improve their rebounding compared to the game against Partizan.

Where to Watch Olympiacos vs Anadolu Efes?

Olympiacos vs Anadolu Efes Best Betting Tip and Prediction

Olympiacos is facing significant injury issues at the start of the season, and it’s clearly affecting the team’s overall performance. While results haven’t suffered drastically so far, the Greek side has shown stretches of inconsistency that a quality opponent can certainly take advantage of. Anadolu Efes is undoubtedly a team with both ambition and the necessary talent to try and upset Olympiacos at this stage of the season. Unlike the home team, the Turkish squad is in a much better position health-wise, and it’s expected that their performances will continue to improve as the season progresses. That’s why we believe we’ll see one of Anadolu Efes’ best games so far this season — and that it will be enough to make the matchup in Piraeus a tightly contested one.
