Pakistan and Afghanistan are currently involved in a military conflict, that has fuelled tensions between the two nations. This tension has spiralled into the cricketing field as well. Pakistan were supposed to face Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in a T20I tri-series at home. However, it not now looks like that his series will definitely not take place amidst the current climate in the country, and the tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. A subsequent decision regarding this might now upset Australia.

According to a report by PTI, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has informed the ICC to work on an alternate plan for the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Sri Lanka tri-series that was set to take place from November 17-29.

“The PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has asked the International Cricket Council to start working on an alternate plan as he wants the Tri-Series to go ahead,” a source close to the proceedings told the news agency.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka were also supposed to play three T20Is in Pakistan from November 11-15 before the start of the tri-series. Instead, the PCB and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are holding discussions to play a series from January 1-10 at Colombo.

PCB Set To Upset Cricket Australia

If the series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is finalized in January, then this might put PCB at loggerheads with Cricket Australia. A number of Pakistan players have signed up for the Big Bash League in 2026, which begins during this period

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Hassan Khan, Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali have all been signed with different franchises.

“Obviously if the series with Sri Lanka is finalised, then either the selectors play without these players or the duration of their NOCs will have to be reconsidered by the PCB, meaning a disagreement with Cricket Australia,” the source said.

Another source said that the CA had informed PCB, that they had spent millions on campaigns for the BBL featurning Pakistan players.
