British boxer Ellie Scotney has been forced to withdraw from her fight on the Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis undercard.

Scotney, who holds the unified WBC, WBO and IBF super-bantamweight titles, was scheduled to face off against WBA title holder Mayelli Flores on 14 November. However, due to an injury sustained during training, the 27-year-old’s fight has been postponed. The much-anticipated clash is set to be rearranged for a future date, as Scotney aims to become the youngest Brit ever to compete for the undisputed championship.

MVP have swiftly found a replacement bout, with undisputed bantamweight champion Cherneka Johnson stepping in to fight Amanda Galle. Johnson, aged 30, claimed the 118lb titles back in July when she defeated Shurretta Metcalf on the Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano undercard at Madison Square Garden.

“I’m pumped to be back in the ring again before the end of the year! It’s been a while since I’ve been this active, and I’m loving it,” Johnson expressed. “I can’t wait to be part of the massive Jake Paul vs Tank Davis card, show the improvements we’ve been working on, and bring my belts back home”, reports All Out Fighting.

“Amanda Galle came up after my fight vs. Shurretta Metcalf in NYC, showed respect, and said she wants what I’ve got – can’t blame her, I’d be chasing all the belts too.” Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, commented: “Even with the short notice, this will be a non-stop all action fight with both fighters ready to make a statement and go to war on Friday, 14 November.

“We wish Ellie Scotney a speedy recovery and look forward to fully supporting her return soon as she continues her mission toward undisputed. Jake vs Tank is a testament to fighters who are redefining limits and chasing greatness, and we look forward to making history together at the Kaseya Center.”

Despite the massive setback for Scotney, the Paul vs Davis undercard still features top-level fights. Alycia Baumgardner will defend her WBA, WBO and IBF women’s junior lightweight titles against Leila Beudoin in the co-main event. Also on the card, Gary Antuanne Russell will defend his WBA junior welterweight title against mandatory challenger Andy Hiraoka.

The preliminary card will also feature a WBC women’s strawweight title fight between champion Yokasta Valle and Yadira Bustillos. Also on the card, Avious Griffin returns to action as he will be looking to bounce back from his first defeat when he takes on Cesar Francis.
