Three people have been confirmed dead following a house fire in central Queensland this morning.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze by neighbours and arrived at the house on Whiting Street, in the Gladstone suburb of Toolooa, just before 6am.
The two-storey home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
The fire was brought under control by 7:20am, but the house had partially collapsed, hampering search efforts.
Capricornia Detective Acting Superintendent Luke Peachey said the circumstances surrounding the fire and the identities of those who died were not yet known.
“Obviously the fire scene is very horrific … and will take some time to go through,” he said.
“It will be a number of days before we know the full circumstances of the fire.
“We’ll be working with the families, once we establish who those people are, to try and work out what happened.”
A crime scene has been established and fire investigators have been notified.
