Nearly 100 riders joined the “Riding for a Greener Guangzhou” event on Changzhou Island to celebrate 75 years of China–Denmark relations and promote sustainable urban mobility.
Danish Ambassador to China Michael Starbæk Christensen highlighted cycling’s role in Denmark, noting Copenhagen’s bike culture where “half of all trips to work or school are by bike,”.
The ride was co-organized by the Danish Consulate General in Guangzhou with the Guangdong and Guangzhou People’s Associations for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Vice President Chen Guangjun called Changzhou Island an “ecological gem” and linked the event to the green goals of China’s upcoming 15th National Games.
Danish Consul General Søren Bindesbøll said he bikes daily with his children and encouraged urban cycling as faster, healthier and better for the climate. Guangzhou has also expanded bike lanes and offers a wide variety of rental bikes.
