Tomasz Michalski’s Image
Tomasz Michalski (Poland) watches a Eurasian spoonbill fly over a flock of greater flamingos standing in a salt marsh.
Tomasz had spent several days photographing the flamingos as they filter-fed on algae and tiny aquatic invertebrates.
He decided to experiment with a technique known as intentional camera movement. This involves moving the camera slightly while pressing the shutter at a slow speed to create a blurred effect.
The island of Lesvos is one of the best places in Europe for birdwatching.
The marshlands, saltpans and flatlands around Kalloni include designated wildlife refuges. These support an enormous diversity of plants and animals.
