St Kilda Football Club has today informed Zak Jones and Arie Schoenmaker that they will not be offered contracts for the 2026 season.
Jones’ AFL career began at Sydney after being selected with pick No. 15 in the 2013 National Draft, before seeking a trade home to Victoria and arriving at Moorabbin ahead of the 2020 season.
Over six years in red, white and black, the 30-year-old became valued as much for the impact he had on those around him as for his own performances. A passionate and selfless teammate, Jones played a key role in guiding emerging players through their development and helping them adjust to the demands of AFL football. He departs St Kilda having played 164 games across his career.
Schoenmaker joined the club as the Saints’ final selection in the 2023 National Draft with pick No. 62 and went on to make seven senior appearances across his two seasons.
A proud Tasmanian, the 20-year-old quickly endeared himself to teammates with his infectious energy, spirit and natural talent. His presence brought vibrancy to the group, while his contributions across both AFL and VFL programs reflected a player with a genuine love for the game.
“This is never an easy part of the year,” St Kilda CEO Carl Dilena said.
“Following the trade period, we’ve had to make some difficult decisions as we continue to shape our list for long-term success.
“Both Zak and Arie have made valuable contributions to the club’s growth over their time at Moorabbin, playing a vital role in helping position the team for its next phase.
“We thank both players for everything they’ve given to the club and wish them every success in the next chapters of their careers.”
